About us

Genus Care was established in 2010 and is a family run business, who own several residential child care homes across South Wales. As Genus Care is owned by the people who run the company on the inside, we make 'child focused, person centred' decisions- not financial or political ones. We don't have investors or share holders that we need to satisfy. We aim to positively change the lives of all children living with us, to realise their full and often undiscovered potential whilst at the same time keeping them safe, educating them and sticking by them. We will do whatever it takes to achieve success.

We have a simple philosophy which is based entirely on the needs and best interests of the child: Once they come to live with us we will not fail them by ending their placement either unnecessarily or before the conclusion of their care and support plan.

Our aim is to end the constant merry go round of frequent placement moves and to offer the children a stable, safe and nurturing environment to enable them to put down roots and be a part of the local community where they can reach their full potential and thrive.

The Job

We are currently recruiting for Residential Child Care Professionals for our Residential Home in

Nantymoel in Bridgend

to work with young people aged 6-18 who have been placed in our care by the Local Authority. These young people have had a very difficult start in life through no fault of their own and can display difficult or challenging behaviour from being let down so badly.

We need dedicated people who can build genuine relationships with the kids and offer them opportunities that they've never had whilst following all policies and personal plans.

This includes...

Good education from our qualified teachers at our on site schools for children who don't attend mainstream education Activities- having a varied planner, having fun, playing games, sport, joining clubs, swimming, cinema, trips to the park or beach, theme parks, camping trips and holidays away in the UK and abroad. Supported family contact Promoting independence Teaching kids everyday skills Therapeutic work to help recover from past trauma 1-1 staffing Structure, routine and boundaries Excellent policies and procedures Personal Plans- all staff have extensive input in what goes into the plan via monthly review meetings Positive relationships with other professionals who are involved in the kids lives
If you are caring, hard- working, a happy and a positive person who has good sense of humour, imaginative, love children, having fun and a challenge and would like to be part of changing children's lives for the better, whilst being their support network, parent and friend, then this is the job for you. This is a challenging but very rewarding role.

You will be part of a very supportive, qualified and experienced network of people and given all the training you need to support you in the role which includes a Level 2 and 3 Diploma so you can become qualified whist doing the job. All training is supported by our Training Manager and will help you to gain the professional qualifications you need for this role no matter what academic level you are. Care work was always an industry that you didn't have to have qualifications for, however it has now become a recognised profession with long term career prospects.

There will be promotional opportunities once qualified and 18 months experience (12 with Genus Care). All of our home Managers started as an RCCP and we only promote within so all senior Managers have an excellent understanding and knowledge of the role as well as being qualified as they have experienced the job first hand.

We want all our employees to grow with us as our children do so we are committed to their training and development to have a long happy career. We believe that if you invest in people they will be happy in their job, thrive and do well which in turn means happier children and a great organisation to be a part of. There is no experience necessary (but would be beneficial).

You will be expected to register with Social Care Wales within 6 months and complete a Diploma Level 2 & 3 in Health & Social Care Children and Young people within 3 years of employment, attend full and half day training courses and personal planning meetings which is funded by the company and fully supported by our Training Manager.

All employees must undergo a DBS check (company to pay),

hold a full current Driving Licence in a manual car

and be willing to drive company cars when at work.

You must be over 21

and pass a 6 month probationary period. If you would like to apply but don't think you have a clean criminal record from something you may have done in your past, then don't let this prevent you from applying. We judge each case on an individual basis depending on the offence and when it happened but we must have full disclosure during the application process.
