Based on a recognised gap in the care of children and young people, Byker Bairns will provide a safe home for children who are family to grow up together. This way of supporting embodies "The Promise" and keeping families together where possible.

? To provide day to day care to children and young people
? To support young people with community activities
? Promote engagement in learning and education for young people
? Participate in individualised care planning and risk assessments for children and young people
? Promote healthy life choices (eating, exercise, wellbeing and cultural)
? Undertake health and safety checks within the home
? Complete daily case notes, weekly updates and reports to external agencies / parents and carers and prepare reports for internal outcome meetings
? Actively engage in team meetings, mandatory / additional training and regular support and supervision sessions with management
? Participate in multi-disciplinary meetings including but not limited to: LAC review, Children's Hearings and internal reviews

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
? Experience in a Social Care / Health Care / Nursery / Support work role
? To be able to register with the SSSC and PVG scheme (Enhanced Disclosure)
? Full UK driving license / ability to reliably commute to service
? Ability to work shifts - including day shift, evenings, weekends and sleepovers.
Desirable
? Qualified in a relevant specialism: Social Work, Nursing, Psychology
? HNC or above and SVQ 3 Social Services (Children and Young People)
Candidates can be "unqualified" with the condition of meeting the necessary qualifications (theoretical and practical) for Registration with the SSSC within the specified timescale of 5 years. To be employed "unqualified" they must meet the minimum criteria for professional experience and meet competencies required for the role.
Professional Experience
? Demonstrable knowledge of Social Care / Childcare Practice
? Have knowledge of the relevant legislation pertaining to Residential Childcare national guidance and standards. (GIRFEC, The Promise, The Care Inspectorate, Health and Social Care Standards)
? Demonstrate effective team working, decision making and using initiative
? Ability to reflect on personal practice and adapt practice where appropriate
? Engage with children and young people positively
? Be able to build professional relationships with external agencies and parents / carers
Personal Qualities and Competencies
? Motivated and committed to achieving positive outcomes for children and young people
? To empower children and young people with positive risk taking and advocate where appropriate
? To be reliable, trustworthy and act as a positive role model for children and young people
? Ability to provide children and young people with nurturing care whilst maintaining their safety and adhering to professional boundaries
? Excellent interpersonal skills and communication - both written and verbal
? Demonstrate the ability to respond pro-actively to children and young people's needs
? Ability to be adaptable and cope with a dynamic environment
? Physically fit and able to participate in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training
Those with lived experience of being "looked after" will also be considered for the role of Residential Child Care Worker. There may also be occasions where staff are unqualified who uphold the values of the organisation. All staff will receive a robust induction regardless of their experience within the sector.

Shift Patterns
? The team will provide 24/7, 365 days a year support to children and young people
? The proposed pattern is 2 shifts on and then 4 off. (For example, starting on Monday am and ending shift on Wednesday am - returning Sunday)
? Presently we welcome applicants with different levels of availability which include day shift, evening shifts, sleepovers.
? Full time, part time, sessional, non-term time roles available
Salary Expectations
Salaries are dependent on experience and qualifications.
The salary scale is from 22500-25000 per annum, plus sleepover payment. We do not include our sleepover payments as part of our annual salary, we believe that this could create a false expectation of salaries for the staff team.
Sleepover payments will vary based on shift pattern and will be paid at 45 in lieu. There is a potential earning of an additional 400 per month in addition to the monthly salary.
