Salary: 33, 360 unqualified, 34,320 qualified based on 160 waking hours per month and 10 sleep-in shifts

Shift pattern: 2 on 4 off

Supporting the Needs and care for of Children and Young People



o Attending to practical matters in relation to childcare (cooking, cleaning, etc)

o Establishing positive relationships with young people and always offering them unconditional and positive regard

o Meeting the physical, emotional,behavioural, cultural and educational needs of the young people

o Acting as a role model and demonstrating appropriate pro-social ways of dealing with problems

o Helping young people gain self control by challenging unacceptable behaviour and rewarding acceptable, pro-social conduct.

o Ensuring that each young person's care plan is followed and amended as appropriate to reflect their changing needs, including risks.

Keyworker Responsibilities



o Taking responsibility for a small number of children and ensuring that their needs are fully met

o Establishing relationships which young people perceive to be positive, warm and rewarding

o Providing advice, assistance and support on a 1-1 basis to enable young people to address past and present difficulties

o Providing emotional support at times of difficulty or stress

o Being ambitious for young people, helping them achieve their goals and optimise their potential

o Providing support for young people in their education and extra curricular activities.

o Keeping accurate records and providing written reports on young people for planning meetings, reviews or any other meetings as directed by the line manager

o Empowering young people and facilitating their active involvement in the decision making about their lives and future

o Acting as an advocate at meetings where the young person is the subject of discussion

Encouraging the young person to develop links with the community, attend off site activities and expand their personal social network.

Team Working



o Being aware of the aims and objectives of the home and working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve them

o Attending team/ staff meetings and making a positive contribution to them

o Actively contributing to the development of the team

o Receiving and storing information to improve communication

o Being willing to give and receive feedback on performance with colleagues and managers

o Being aware of childcare plans for all the young people and providing support for colleagues by maintaining consistency in the execution of those plans

o Providing informal practical and emotional support to colleagues experiencing difficulties

o Attending and contributing to regular supervision sessions in line with the national minimum standards

o Monitoring the conduct of colleagues and referring on any causes for concern(whistleblowing)

o Being familiar with all policies and procedures and adhering to them

General Duties



o Attending young peoples meetings and contributing to them

o Driving company vehicles ( current driving licence holders subject to procedures)

o Receiving training appropriate to role and maintaining an up to date training file

o Working towards Diploma 4 in Children's Residential Care

o Responsibility for the accurate maintenance of financial records appropriate to the duties of the post

Person Specification



Qualifications



Previous experience in childcare or a similar role is essential Essential Level 4 Diploma within children and young people residential care or willingness to work towards Strong IT skills for maintaining records and communicating effectively with team members. Excellent communication skills to engage with children and their families effectively. A valid driving licence is advantageous for transportation purposes when required. Understanding of care plans and the ability to implement them effectively. A compassionate approach with a genuine interest in supporting children's growth and development Current clean driving licence

Experience



12 months experience of working in a residential setting with young people challenging behaviour or other relevant childcare or educational setting

Candidates must be suitable to work with children and young people within a care setting (subject to pre-employment checks).
