The Big House is a home which provides short breaks to children with significant intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, medical and sensory needs. Our children may become distressed and may display risk behaviours when their needs are not met, or when struggling to communicate with others.

We provide overnight short breaks for up to 8 children. We are based in the village of Edwinstowe, next door to Sherwood Forest in a purpose built home that opened in 2016.

We are looking for committed, inspirational and resilient individuals to work with our children. Our dedicated staff team come from a variety of backgrounds, but all want to provide the best care they can for our very special children.

Are you motivated, caring and committed to meeting the needs of the children you care for as well as having the ability and resilience to work in what can be a very physically and emotionally challenging environment?

You will be part of a team of amazing people who have the needs of the children at the heart of everything that they do. Ideally you will have NVQ3/Diploma Level 3 in Residential Childcare, however if not, we will support you to achieve this qualification. You must have at least 6 months experience within residential childcare. We are a 24 hour a day home and you will be required to work shifts including evenings, weekends and bank holidays. Our full time staff work 2 weekends out of 3. Shifts are either 7am-3pm or 2-10pm with the occasional sleep in shift. Our rota is a 3 week rolling rota and this will enable you to plan and provide a work/life balance. Evenings, weekends, sleep ins and bank holidays attract enhanced payments which will increase your basic salary. You will also get a generous annual leave entitlement which is above statutory requirements.

You will be provided with a full induction and will be supervised by a member of the management team. There are extensive training and development opportunities provided for you.
