Do you want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people who have experienced trauma?
If you're compassionate, resilient, and committed to supporting young people in overcoming adversity, we'd love to have you join the team at Athena Care Group.
Who We Are
Athena Care Group is a values-driven organisation that provides
trauma-informed, outcome-focused care
for children and young people in residential settings. We specialise in creating safe, stable environments where vulnerable young people can heal, grow, and thrive. With five homes across South Wales, we offer structured, nurturing care rooted in consistency, empathy, and understanding.
What You'll Do
As a Support Worker, your role will focus on helping children and young people navigate their challenges, build resilience, and develop the skills they need for brighter futures. You'll provide care tailored to the unique needs of each young person, with a strong focus on trauma-informed approaches and therapeutic practices.
Here's what a typical day might involve:
Morning:
Supporting young people as they prepare for school, fostering positive routines, and encouraging self-reliance.
Daytime:
While the young people are at school, you'll update care plans, attend team meetings, and participate in training to enhance your knowledge and skills.
Afternoon:
Welcoming the young people back, helping with homework, and engaging in after-school activities to build trust and confidence.
Evening:
Creating a calm, structured environment to help young people with their evening routines, offering stability and reassurance.
You'll be much more than a supervisor - you'll be a mentor, advocate, and role model.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for individuals who bring more than qualifications - we want people who bring
heart, understanding, and a commitment to making a difference.
A genuine passion for supporting children and young people.
An understanding of the impact of trauma on young people and how to provide care that meets their emotional and psychological needs.
The ability to stay calm, empathetic, and professional, even in challenging situations.
Flexibility to work a 3-day shift pattern, including sleep-ins.
A commitment to creating a safe, supportive environment where young people can thrive.
Experience isn't essential - we provide full training - but it's an advantage if you have:
Experience in residential childcare or working with vulnerable children and young people.
A QCF Level 3 in Health & Social Care, Children & Young People or a willingness to work towards it.
Knowledge of trauma-informed practices or therapeutic care approaches.
