The Residential Support Worker is responsible for ensuring the safety of young people aged 16 to 18 and beyond living in supported accommodation and for providing high-quality, person-centred support. This role focuses on promoting independence, resilience, safety, and emotional well-being while supporting young people in making positive life choices and transitioning successfully into adulthood. The Residential Support Worker serves as a consistent and trusted adult, providing both practical and emotional support. Additionally, they uphold safeguarding measures, maintain professional boundaries, and comply with the Supported Accommodation Regulations (England) 2023
Essential Criteria
o
Experience working with young people (ages 16-18) in a residential, supported living, or youth work setting.
Understanding of safeguarding principles, trauma-informed practices, and professional boundaries.
Ability to manage risks, make sound decisions, and maintain composure under pressure.
Level 3 or 4 Diploma in Health & Social Care (Children & Young People) or equivalent (or willingness to obtain).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Competence in IT and recording systems.
Desirable Criteria

Knowledge of the Supported Accommodation (England) Regulations 2023 and Ofsted inspection framework.
First Aid, Food Hygiene, or other relevant training.
Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and lone work as required.
Full UK driving licence.

Service Delivery and Safeguarding
Build trusting and respectful relationships with young people through consistency, empathy, and well-defined boundaries.
Assist each young person in developing independent living skills, including cooking, cleaning, budgeting, managing appointments, and self-care.
Encourage engagement in education, training, and employment opportunities.
Promote physical and emotional well-being through healthy lifestyle choices, recreational activities, and community participation.
Implement individual support and risk management plans while updating records and contributing to reviews.
Teaching daily life skills to the young people in the home and in the community, such as washing, cleaning, paying for items and paying bills.
Preparing young people for adulthood
Completing the home's paperwork as required
Knowledge of behaviour management and adhering to behaviour management support plans and risk assessments
Liaising with other relevant services such as the police, health and social services
Remain vigilant for signs of abuse, neglect, exploitation, or self-harm, and report any concerns immediately following safeguarding policies.
Collaborate in multi-agency efforts with social workers, education providers, and health professionals.
Ensure the safety of each young person within and outside the home through proactive supervision, boundaries, and risk assessments.
Contribute to fostering a culture of openness, safety, and accountability.
Participate in team meetings, supervision, and training sessions.
Consistently model professional behaviour and serve as a positive role model.

Work flexibly to meet the needs of the service, including covering shifts and responding to emergencies.
Personal and Professional Development o Attend mandatory training courses
Attend specialist training courses relevant to the individuals being supported
Participate in supervisions and appraisals
Obtain a qualification in children and young people
Lone working responsibilities o Effectively manage the accommodation and oversee young people's welfare during shifts when working alone.
Adhere to the organisation's Lone Working Policy by maintaining regular welfare checks and communication with on-call management.
Exhibit sound judgment and calm decision-making when responding to incidents or crises.
Ensure property security, fire safety, and completion of night-time supervision routines.
Accurately record all significant events and promptly report them to management or emergency services as necessary.
Administration o Ensure employees provide detailed reports within young people's personal plans, including daily report logs, risk assessments, behaviour support plans, and missing from home logs
Ensure all documentation is kept under regular monitoring and review
Ensuring finances are protected in relation to both young people and Concept Care by following financial procedures
Maintain confidentiality and comply with data protection standards in line with GDPR.
Completion of any paperwork relevant within the home to include health & safety, young person's meetings, key worker sessions, incident reporting, medication recording and finance

Contribute to the formulation of support Plans, Risk Assessments, and daily check ins and statutory reports as required.
Daily Tasks Support our children and young people to:
Increase independent living skills around the home (cleaning, cooking, personal care, laundry/ironing, budgeting/paying bills, meal planning/shopping)
Support them to attend all appointments in line with their own health needs (GP, Dentist, Hospital, Community practitioners etc)
Maintain and improve emotional well-being and communication in line with the support plan
Access the community to participate in activities of their choosing, such as leisure, education or employment
Have their say via weekly house meetings
Maintain relationships with friends and family
Ensure all health and safety checks have been completed
Ensure all Fire Checks have been completed.
Customer Satisfaction o Ensure support is provided to people in a person-centred, individual way and that this support is recorded and monitored appropriately to realise achievements for the young people
Promote the complaints procedure in a way that allows the young people to feel they can express any concerns or complaints and know that they will be taken seriously and dealt with effectively
Promote the duty of care to ensure that the children are protected in line with local safeguarding protocols
Work with families to foster open, honest communication and promote a willingness to improve the service their family member receives continuously
Communication o To understand all communication systems in place and use them effectively, such as emails, and telephone logs, to communicate with staff and families
Facilitate handovers for each shift using the handover log
Attend periodical reviews for every young person, where possible
All matters relating to the service will need to be communicated to the Deputy Manager and Registered Service Manager.
Experience
Previous experience working with children in a childcare or support setting is highly desirable
Knowledge of child development principles and childcare best practices
Experience with creating or implementing care plans tailored to individual needs
Good communication skills to effectively liaise with children, families, and team members
Ability to operate IT systems for record keeping and reporting purposes
A valid driving licence is preferred for transporting children safely to various locations
