This is a fantastic opportunity to join our friendly and Respiratory Team in the new Louisa Martindale Building at the heart of Brighton.



Our modern, purpose-built respiratory unit includes a dedicated Same Day Respiratory Unit on the 9th floor, with panoramic views of the English Channel -- a truly unique place to deliver outstanding care.



As a Specialist Asthma Nurse in a Tier 3 asthma centre , you'll play a vital role in delivering expert care, education and support to patients and their families. You'll use your clinical knowledge and leadership skills to assess, treat and manage people with asthma, ensuring they receive the very best care throughout their journey .



This is an exciting time to join our team as we continue to develop and expand our Severe Asthma Service. We are a Tier 3 asthma centre, initiating asthma biologics following MDT with the Severe Asthma Cent r e (Royal Brompton Hospital). We have close to 100 patients on biologics. You'll be part of a supportive, forward-thinking team committed to improving outcomes for patients, while also having opportunities for your own professional development.

The post holder will provide clinical expertise and knowledge and demonstrate sound understanding of the issues related to patients with Asthma including assessment treatment and management of this client group. The post holder will facilitate and manage the provision of high-quality nursing care to patients with Asthma to provide optimum health and support for patients, their families and/or carers.



In this role you will:



Work closely with patients, families and carers to provide holistic, high-quality care.



Support colleagues and share your expertise through advice, education and guidance.



Collaborate with primary and secondary care teams to ensure smooth transitions into community care.



Play a key part in delivering asthma biologics -helping to identify patients, initiate treatment and monitor response.



Contribute to education, audit and research to drive forward our innovative asthma service .



They will utilise skills of leadership and advanced clinical expertise to ensure a seamless service for patients, carers and staff and provide advice, education, and support from diagnosis to end of life care. They will work collaboratively with primary and secondary health care professionals, supporting individuals attending the Trust either as inpatients or outpatients and ensure smooth transitions of care into the community setting.

This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route. Sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds, and any role-specific criteria.



To lead best practice in nursing care of patients with Asthma.



Taking on a caseload of patients to support from referral onwards, including contributing to planning diagnostic work ups to support asthma/severe asthma diagnosis and confirm eligibility for biologics and following -up eligible for biologics.



Supporting the U H sussex biologics MDT by providing information and insight on patient needs



Completing and sending necessary information to the severe asthma MDT to support patient initiation on biologics.



Involvement in biologic clinics including administering biologics for patients, and education in self-administration for future use at home.



The post holder will be able to assess, monitor and provide asthma action plans in the acute setting and nurse led clinics.



Act as patient's advocate and counsel when informed discussion may lead to choices being made concerning treatment options or quality of life issues.



To collaborate with other professionals and services in both secondary and primary care to achieve a seamless service, with effective communication between the service, regional hospitals and community teams .



Provide a telephone support service for patients and health care professionals, communicating with other services as indicated .



To act as an autonomous practitioner and provide nurse led clinics, request, perform and analyse tests.



Review inpatients admitted with an acute exacerbation of asthma and facilitate with discharge plans to ensure safe appropriate discharge .



Contribute to rota of respiratory specialist nurse cover at Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath along with other respiratory spec ialist nurses



Demonstrate advanced nursing practices relevant to the area of Asthma, Ordering and interpretation of diagnostics.



collaboration with community teams and support services in the community setting.



Ability to apply excellent analytical and judgement skills to interpret and compare a range of options on patient care.



Demonstrate ability to act independently, use initiative and be accountable for own actions in the hospital and outpatient setting .



Computer literate, able to use databases and other relevant programmes



Demonstrate the ability to educate and train other health professionals, to motivate and enthuse others and work across professional boundaries



Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and show the ability to influence and negotiate



Active participation in research and/ or clinical evaluation and audit



Ability to present relevant written and visual educational material



Flexibility, adaptability to meet the needs of a changing service



To raise the profile of Asthma in the trust, locally and nationally and actively participate in the promotion of Asthma health



To develop specialist knowledge in Asthma care and develop robust networks with As thma servic es na tionally



To act in accordance with the NMC code of Professional standards of practice and behaviour for nurses, midwives and nursing associate
