Job Description

The Resuscitation Practitioner (RO) will assist the lead resuscitation Practitioner with the development, management and continuous evaluation of the resuscitation services provided by Moorfields NHS Eye hospital. To assist with local planning and implementation of national polices and guidance from.



UK Resuscitation Council. National Institutes of Clinical Excellence (NICE) Care Quality Commission (CQC). Department of Health (DOH). Health Education England (Skills for Health).

The resus service is a small team that welcomes creative and innovative staff to help in taking resuscitation training to all staff working at the trust.



The post holder will;



Be responsible for the organisation, set up and maintenance of resuscitation equipment used in the delivery of training. In addition, they will provide and maintain an efficient and effective service which meets departmental, trust and national standards, policies and procedure



Teach resuscitation courses and immediate resuscitation skills to agreed national and local guidelines. This is to include the NEWS and prevention of cardiac arrest in adult and paediatric.



To run in situ based simulated training exercises across the trust in non-clinical and clinical areas To support the volunteer services with any training requirements.

The post holder will be required to participate in undertaking audits such as compliance with daily checking and stocking of cardiac arrest trolleys, the correct use of the NEWS and 2222 calls.



There is some travel to the other sites to provide training



The role requires the post holder to work autonomously and flexibly to ensure that all resuscitation training is delivered to meet the needs of the service and optimise compliance.

As an active member of the medical emergency team, provide clinical support and advise as required when attending an emergency event.



Maintain the database for resuscitation outcomes, clinical risk, all training programs and participant attendance. When required, present data, reports and evaluation to heads of departments, senior managers, the resuscitation committee, the risk and safety committee and clinical governance. When necessary, meet with departments to assess training needs and provide appropriate advice and feedback regarding service provision. To maintain the training equipment and training rooms. To ensure sufficient stock is available, this includes training sundries and education manuals.

Education & Training



Teach basic and immediate resuscitation skills to agreed national and local guidelines. This is to include the NEWS and prevention of cardiac arrest in adult and paediatric. Assess the competence of staff preforming resuscitation procedures and arrange retraining where appropriate. Devise, plan, implement and evaluate training programmes for all grades of staff appropriate to their role at Moorfields Eye hospital. To run in situ based simulated training exercises across the trust in non-clinical and clinical areas. To support the volunteer services with any training requirements. To be easily accessible and contactable by staff and when necessary, act as a resource. In conjunction with learning and development maintain records of staff who have received resuscitation training. To actively participate in giving and receiving peer review of teaching skills and abilities as part of on-going professional development. Maintains own professional development

Quality & Risk



Ensure that Trust policy incorporates national guidance and when necessary, contributes to the review and updating of the policy. Identify clinical risks related to emergency situations and action as necessary. Lead on a programme of audit for the resuscitation service and ensure that any risks are identified and placed on the Trusts' risk register. Ensure emergency equipment is maintained and checked according to Trust policy. Ensure necessary equipment stores are available to facilitate the running of nationally accredited courses. Ensure that practice is evidence based and developed in accordance with new guidance. .Monitor clinical incidents pertaining to resuscitation and when necessary, take action to minimise re-occurrence. Take responsibility for ensuring that MHRA notices (resuscitation) are actioned in a timely manner. In conjunction with the Head of Risk & safety lead on the NHSLA standards for resuscitation. When required lead/collaborate with senior managers in Serious Untoward Incident enquiries.

Leadership



Be an active member of the Trust's resuscitation committee. Co-ordinate the general day-today running of the resuscitation service within the post-holders specified areas of responsibility. To act as a change agent and motivator in promoting best practice within the resuscitation service. Be proactive and imaginative in developing resus-based education. Ensure effective use of resources without compromising patient care. Liaise with the Resuscitation Council (UK). Facilitate continuation of the Trust as a licensed Resuscitation Council (UK) training centre.

All members of the resuscitation team are occasionally required to travel to other Moorfields sites and provide training and complete audits.
