We are seeking a diligent and service?oriented individual to join our team at Mail Boxes Etc. Reading. This part?time role (25 hours per week, 5 hours per day, with the possibility of full-time very quickly) focuses on supporting MBE's Auction service, which provides bespoke collection, expert packing and delivery of fine art, antiques, collectibles, and other auction?won items. The ideal candidate will be detail?oriented, comfortable handling valuable and fragile items, and passionate about ensuring high quality, timely service for our clients.
Responsibilities
Receive and process auction lots when clients bring them in, or coordinate with local drop?off points.
Prepare items for transport: carefully packing, crating, wrapping, labelling, and securing items according to handling and insurance requirements.
Liaise with auction clients and auction houses: communicate clearly regarding collection times, condition of items, packing requirements, shipping quotes, etc.
Manage internal documentation and tracking for auction lots: ensuring correct item descriptions, values, insurance details, and delivery instructions.
Generate quotes, send delivery confirmations/emails, and update status of shipments.
Conduct quality control checks to inspect goods for damage, verify condition, packaging integrity, and prepare items according to MBE standards.
Handle incoming enquires via phone/email from auction clients about quotes, delivery schedules, status updates, or insurance/packing options.
Collaborate with courier and shipping partners: schedule collections, prepare handovers, ensure correct documentation for international shipments when needed.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workspace, especially for fragile and high?value items.
Qualifications
Previous experience working with fragile/valuable items (e.g. art, antiques, collectables) or in a packing/logistics environment is highly desirable.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise packing and handling instructions.
Good communication skills (verbal and written), with confidence dealing with clients, auction houses, and external partners.
Basic computer and administration skills (quotes, tracking, email, order entry).
Ability to lift and move items safely, often involving awkward shapes or weight; knowledge of packing materials and techniques.
Integrity and reliability, especially when dealing with valuable items and insurance matters.
Flexibility to adapt to varying workloads and schedules (e.g. coordinating collections, peak times following auctions).
