Are you an experienced Retail Manager looking for a new challenge?

HospiceCare North Northumberland is a charity that provides end of life care at home and bereavement and dementia support across North Northumberland.

To fund this work we currently operate 4 retail units. One in Amble, Two in Berwick, and one in Wooler, alongside a fledgling e-commerce facility. We are looking for a Store Manager to work in our Amble Store alongside our current Store Manager and Volunteers, under the direction of our Retail Operations Manager.

We aim to increase income into the Hospice, enabling us to fulfil our plans, to provide more care to more people across our community.

Days -

Thursday, Friday and alternate Saturday working (averaging 16.5 hours per week)



Overview



To ensure the smooth day to day running of the store. Maximising sales. Maximising effective stock management. Managing and training shop volunteers. Administration Tasks. Ensuring HospiceCare policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.

Main Responsibilities



Day to day running of the retail shop



Working alongside the Retail Operations Manager, implement systems and procedures for the effective and efficient running of the store. Opening/closing the store in accordance with rotas. Ensure the highest level of customer experience. Ensure the store premises are well presented, safe and welcoming at all times. Analyse data and activities to ensure continual improvements to practices.

Maximising Sales



Work with the Retail Operations Manager to achieve agreed sales targets. Implement pricing policy agreed with the Retail Operations Manager. Help to plan and deliver events and promotional activities (sometimes outside normal working hours).

Maintaining Effective Stock Management



Implement procedures for efficient receipt of donations, sorting, storage and preparation of stock. Apply suitable display, merchandising and window dressing standards. Initiate themed / seasonal promotions to optimise stock turnover.

Volunteer Management & Training



Support recruitment, induction and ongoing training and supervision of all volunteers. Ensure effective communications with all staff and volunteers. Work with the Retail Operations Manager to ensure our incredible volunteers' efforts are appropriately recognised and appreciated.

Administration



Ensure daily banking / cash reconciliation procedures are correctly followed. Assist with purchasing supplies and services, with delegated responsibilities agreed with Retail Operations Manager.

Policies and Procedures



Ensure all HospiceCare policies and procedures are adhered to at all times, particularly with regard to Health and Safety. Ensure all staff and volunteers comply with Trading Standards Legislation and other legal requirements. Update and implement appropriate policies and procedures e.g. for housekeeping, stock processing etc. Liaise with outside services in respect of PAT testing, fire safety equipment etc.

Other



Be a prominent public face of HospiceCare, promoting and raising awareness of the charity's services and activities in the local community. Carry out any other duties, appropriate to responsibilities within this role, as directed by the Retail Operations Manager.

ESSENTIAL

:

Experience of working in a retail environment

Experience of working in a team

Commercial awareness

Experience of working with sales and profit targets

Good written and numeric skills

Excellent interpersonal skills

Flexible attitude and adaptable to change

Good time management and prioritisation skills

Ability to work effectively under pressure

Competent administration (Word and Excel) and numeracy skills.

Ability to analyse data to improve performance

Commitment to quality, customer service, best practice and best value in all aspects of the charity's operation.

Physically capable of carrying out the full requirements of the post.

DESIRABLE



Experience in working alongside volunteers

Experience of working in a charity shop

Line Management experience

Creativity with shop display and windows

Understanding of high street retail fashion
