Leeds Museums and Galleries are seeking a self-starter to supervise the day to day running of the retail operations at Leeds Art Gallery and Leeds City Museum providing excellent customer service and visitor experience.


With an interest in retail operations, you will also work to support the running of the online shop ensuring purchase paths are clear and sales targets are met. You will play a key part in the effective development of Leeds Museums and Galleries retail operations to maximise revenue and profitability across the portfolio, contributing to the delivery of the service strategic plan.

About the role



As a retail supervisor, you will supervise the day to day running of the retail operations at Leeds Art Gallery, Leeds City Museum and for the online shop ensuring sales targets are met whilst providing excellent customer service and ensuring an excellent visitor experience. You will contribute to the effective development of the wider Leeds Museums and Galleries retail operations to maximise revenue and profitability contributing to the delivery of the service strategic plan. Your role is integral to the smooth operation of the retail team.

Job Purpose




Supervise the day to day running of the retail operations at Leeds Art Gallery, Leeds City Museum and for the online shop ensuring sales targets are met whilst providing excellent customer service and ensuring an excellent visitor experience. Contribute to the effective development of Leeds Museums and Galleries retail operations to maximise revenue and profitability contributing to the delivery of the service strategic plan


Responsibilities


Oversee the delivery of excellent face to face retail sales and customer service at Leeds Art Gallery and Leeds City Museum maximising revenue. Respond to more complex customer enquiries. Develop knowledge of products and ranges on sale and cascade to Retail Assistants and Visitor Assistants ensuring staff are well informed and able to proactively promote all retail stock. Supervise a small team of retail staff and support the wider teams of Visitor Assistants aiming for the highest standards and ensure retail sales are driven and optimised in each giftshop. Develop staff to incorporate add on sales where possible including the Picture Lending Scheme and online opportunities for print on demand and roll out initiatives including promotions and seasonal sales to increase. Assist in the development of products and ranges and purchase of stock that complement LMG collections and exhibitions programme. Assist with producing visual presentation plans and guidelines and maintain high standards of visual merchandising at Leeds Art Gallery and Leeds City Museum giftshops. Roll out a programme of training across LMG other sites working with the Retail and eCommerce Coordinator. Take overall responsibility for the retail stock at Leeds Art Gallery and Leeds City Museum and ensure key products are always available, including for specific exhibitions and events. Administer the use of the retail EPOS system in each giftshop. Organise annual stocktakes and regular stock checks and support wider sites where required. Ensure the secure and safe operation of all retail spaces and compliance by staff in all procedures including authorised stock moves, financial and audit processes. Report on weekly sales figures and monitor both giftshops and the online shop against agreed performance targets and spend per visitor. Assist with managing the online shop, uploading new products, pricing, offers and promotions and ensure orders are processed in line with correct procedures. Oversee the cleanliness, general housekeeping and relevant security procedures for all retail areas. Participate in briefing sessions and training to develop skills and knowledge relevant to the post. Ensure all retail work is undertaken in line with relevant Health and Safety guidelines. Be aware of and adhere to Leeds City Council Health and Safety Policy being responsible for your own health and safety whilst at work and that of your colleagues and our customers. Achieve recognised Health & Safety qualification specific to job need. Carry out risk assessments and implement safe systems of work as required. Promote and apply consistently the principles of Leeds City Council Equal Opportunities Policies both with colleagues and members of the public to ensure fair and equal access to services and opportunities. Essential requirements
