About us
The position will be within the Social Biobehavioural Research Group in the Research Department of Behavioural Science and Health. The post-holder will be involved in analysing administrative records and survey data to understand the distribution, uptake and impact of social prescribing referrals in the UK. These datasets include electronic health records from the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) and cloud-based platforms that gather on social prescribing such as Access Elemental. The Social Biobehavioural Research Group leads globally recognised research into how social factors affect our physical and mental health, including both social assets (e.g. social relationships, arts and culture, leisure, nature) and deficits (e.g. loneliness, social isolation).

About the role

These datasets include electronic health records from the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) and cloud-based platforms that gather on social prescribing such as Access Elemental.
Application Details:

  • This is a fixed term contract with external funding until 31 August 2027 in the first instance.
  • Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent on award and confirmation of a PhD (or equivalent). If this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B, point 25 (salary 38,607 per annum inclusive of London allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
  • This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation.

About you
The place-holder should have a PhD in epidemiology, quantitative social science, statistics or other relevant discipline (if the degree has not yet been granted, the thesis should have been submitted to the degree granting university by the time of starting). They should be familiar with data manipulation and analysis of large-scale electronic health records, administrative datasets or cohort studies, with an expertise in statistical analysis using a command-based/programming language (e.g. STATA, R) and a track record of high-quality original research. They should be willing to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a multi-professional team and with external research collaborators partner, contributing to a positive work/ learning environment.
