The RF Survey & Coverage Technician will carry out field-based radio frequency (RF) surveys (walk-tests, drive tests, indoor/outdoor) to assess coverage, capacity, and performance of wireless networks. The role involves visiting sites, collecting raw measurement data, processing and documenting that data, and liaising closely with the engineering team to ensure best practices in survey methodology and data quality. The technician will spend time away from home, often staying overnight, to complete survey assignments across the UK.
Duties
Plan, prepare, and execute RF coverage/drive/walk tests (indoor, outdoor, vertical) at designated sites.
Configure, operate, and maintain RF test equipment (Keysite Walker Air, Enchancell Echo Plus etc.)
Collect raw RF measurement data (signal strength, quality, interference, coverage holes, KPIs) in accordance with survey plans.
Perform site surveys (e.g. mounting locations, antenna heights, line-of-sight, obstructions) to support coverage modeling.
Import, clean, correlate, and post-process measurement data into software tools (e.g. Atoll, TEMS, Nemo, iBwave, etc.).
Produce documentation, reports, maps, charts, and summary deliverables (heatmaps, coverage plots, KPI summaries).
Liaise with RF/network engineering teams to review findings, validate data, and feed into optimization or network planning.
Provide feedback and suggestions to refine survey methods, measurement procedures, and best practices.
Coordinate logistics for travel, site access, permissions, and accommodation.
Adhere to health & safety, site rules, and company policies when working on customer sites or third-party locations.
Track and report project progress, timesheets, expenses, and field logs.
Sometimes assist with ad-hoc measurement, benchmarking, or performance validation tasks.
Requirements
Good data processing / analytics skills: ability to work with raw measurement datasets, spreadsheets, proprietary tools.
Strong attention to detail and methodical approach to data capture and documentation.
Ability to work independently in the field, manage time, and meet deadlines.
Good communication skills (verbal and written) to liaise with engineers and produce clear reports.
Full UK driving licence (valid) -- travel required.
Willingness and ability to spend nights away and travel across the UK.
Basic IT literacy: Windows, MS Office, data import/export, file handling.
The ability to pass basic DBS/BPSS security clearance and up to SC.
Desirable / Nice to Have
Proven experience in RF measurement, coverage surveying, or field test roles (walk/drive test).
Familiarity with mainstream RF measurement/survey tools (e.g. TEMS, Nemo, Atoll, iBwave, etc.).
Experience with RF propagation modeling tools or network planning software (Atoll, Planet, etc.).
Knowledge of 5G, LTE, small cells, and new radio technologies.
GIS / mapping experience.
Experience working with indoor coverage tools (e.g. iBwave, ICS).
Experience in liaising with clients / external stakeholders.
Familiarity with health & safety practices on site (working at height, confined spaces, site permitting).
Working Conditions & Travel
The role is field-heavy -- you will spend a proportion of time away from home, often staying in overnight accommodation.
Travel across the UK including remote/rural locations.
Working in security sensitive sites
On-site at third-party locations (buildings, rooftops, telecom sites).
Occasional flexibility in hours (early starts, late finishes) depending on site constraints.
