The RGN Team Leader holds clinical and operational responsibility for a designated care unit or team, ensuring the highest standard of evidence-based nursing care is delivered to all patients/residents. This role combines advanced clinical practice with strong supervisory leadership, focusing on maintaining regulatory compliance, complex case management, and mentoring the nursing and care staff.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Practice:
Oversee and perform complex clinical assessments, monitoring, and interventions.
Act as the clinical expert and first point of contact for complex patient conditions, ensuring prompt and effective clinical decision-making.
Specialized Care: Take the lead role in managing complex clinical needs, including Pressure Ulcer Prevention and Advanced Wound Care management, ensuring consistent application of best practice guidelines.
Medication Management & Compliance:
Ensure the safe, legal, and appropriate administration of all medications.
Maintain competency in and oversee the administration of specialized medications, including Buccal Midazolam for emergency seizure management, adhering strictly to organizational policy and PGDs (Patient Group Directions).
Team Supervision & Quality Assurance:
Supervise, coach, and manage the performance of RGNs, Care Workers, and support staff.
Contribute to the development and implementation of care worker plans and nursing care plans, ensuring they are person-centered and outcomes-focused.
Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with CQC standards and internal quality metrics.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate and detailed clinical records, utilizing basic Excel knowledge for data tracking, reporting on clinical outcomes, and compiling shift handovers.
Liaise effectively with multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs), families, and external healthcare providers.
Qualifications
Registration & Licensure (Mandatory):
Active and unrestricted registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is essential (current NMC PIN required).
Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years post-registration experience as a Registered General Nurse (RGN).
Minimum of 1-2 years of proven experience in a leadership, supervisory, or Senior RGN capacity.
Experience working as a Care Worker prior to or alongside RGN qualification is desirable.
Specialist Skills & Training:
Demonstrable advanced training and practical experience in Pressure Ulcer Classification and Wound Care Management.
Certified training in the administration of Buccal Midazolam (or willingness to complete immediately upon appointment).
Proven ability to contribute to and create nursing and care worker plans.
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and clinical electronic records systems.
