Job Description

OVERALL SUMMARY

At Close Brothers we look to recruit individuals from all different backgrounds and encourage you to apply even if you don't tick every box. We celebrate diversity, promote inclusivity and are open to discuss flexible work options to help you balance your work and home life.

Join Close Brothers as a Risk Business Partner and help shape the way we manage non-financial risks. In this key role, you'll act as a trusted business partner by embedding smart, effective processes that support the identification, reporting, and escalation of risks. Your work will help ensure our risk practices are consistent and aligned with our strategic goals.

You'll be part of a supportive team that values fresh thinking, clear communication, and a proactive approach. If you enjoy working with others to drive operational excellence and want to be part of a business that's moving forward with purpose, we'd love to hear from you.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Champion risk culture

- Embed non-financial risk appetite across the Motor business, supporting and constructively challenging leadership through strong relationship building and active participation in governance forums.

Be a trusted advisor

- Partner with teams to assess risks, strengthen controls, and ensure activities align with Group policies and defined risk appetite.

Drive smarter processes

- Continuously improve how we manage risk by challenging existing ways of working and helping shape more efficient, effective solutions.

Support key initiatives

- Provide risk oversight across business projects, new products, and change programmes, ensuring risks are identified and managed early.

Collaborate across functions

- Work closely with Audit, Compliance, and Group Risk teams to share insights, align review plans, and stay ahead of emerging risks.

Lead risk assessments

- Facilitate regular risk and control reviews, scenario workshops, and key risk indicator updates to keep our risk profile current and well-managed.

Enable informed decisions

- Deliver clear, high-quality recommendations and guidance to help the business take smart, informed risks that support our strategic goals.

WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU:

Bring a degree-level education (or equivalent experience) and a solid foundation in financial services risk, whether from industry or consultancy. Have hands-on experience in risk management, with a strong understanding of operational and conduct risk frameworks in a retail banking setting. Know your stuff when it comes to industry best practices and the wider regulatory landscape in financial services. Communicate clearly and confidently, whether you're writing reports or speaking with senior leaders, you know how to get your message across. Have experience running operational risk programmes in consumer credit or retail banking environments. Understand how operational risk is monitored and managed within financial services, and you're ready to bring that expertise to a fast-moving team.

IT IS NOT ESSENTIAL BUT IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU:

Have relevant knowledge of industry process, control and risk frameworks (e.g. ISO, COCO).

We are an inclusive organisation and committed to ensuring our recruitment process is as accessible as possible to everyone. We will make adjustments for people who have a disability or long-term condition. If you need the job description or application form in an alternative format or would like to discuss the recruitment process with us, please email us at recruit.ssc@closebrothers.com or request a call back.
