The Role




We're looking for a proactive, detail-oriented

Risk & Compliance Lead

to take ownership of operational compliance across our expanding retail and Post Office estate.


This isn't a traditional internal audit role -- it's a practical, hands-on position, focused on ensuring the day-to-day running of our branches aligns with best practice, legal obligations, and common sense. From cash handling and stock management to health & safety and cyber security, you'll help ensure our business runs smoothly and securely.

Key Responsibilities



Operational Risk & Compliance Oversight



Monitor and review retail and Post Office daily cash handling procedures, banking reconciliation, and stock accuracy Conduct regular and ad hoc spot checks across branches to ensure adherence to internal controls and policies Develop and maintain the UOE Group Risk Register, working with senior leaders to track and mitigate risks

Health, Safety & Security



Ensure Health & Safety compliance across all branches, including fire safety, first aid, and mandatory documentation Oversee store security and loss prevention measures including CCTV, alarm systems, access control and physical security Identify, investigate and help reduce shrinkage and other loss risks across the retail and Post Office estate Support cyber security best practices in partnership with our IT providers Coordinate annual compliance certifications, inspections, and required documentation

Policy, Process & Reporting



Maintain and evolve operational policies (e.g. cash handling, physical security, business continuity) Investigate and document significant incidents, including cash losses, policy breaches, and compliance failures Deliver regular compliance reporting and insights to the Head of Finance and Senior Leadership Team

Training & Support



Provide compliance and risk-related training support to Team Leaders and Store Support Team Act as a trusted advisor to store teams -- helping them navigate compliance practically, not just tick boxes Work cross-functionally with Finance, People, Operations, Post Office Compliance and IT to ensure alignment

About You




We're looking for someone who is:

Commercially awareand understands the realities of a fast-paced retail environment Highly organisedwith a sharp eye for detail and a practical mindset Confident and resilient*, with the ability to influence without being obstructive
Collaborative-- able to work across all levels and departments, from store teams to the boardroom

You'll also bring:



Experience in a compliance, risk, operations support or audit-related role Strong knowledge of retail operations, cash and stock controls, and H&S best practice Solid Excel and reporting skills; confidence using cloud-based systems (e.g. Xero, Teams, Deputy etc) Familiarity with Post Office operations or regulatory frameworks (preferred but not essential)
