How you'll make a difference:
As Risk Management and Insurance Officer, you will develop and maintain a comprehensive service to protect assets and liabilities. Promoting the concept of risk management and insurance, particularly around highways and subsidence claims, you will ensure that all claims are submitted, investigated and settled on the most beneficial terms for the council.
What you will be doing:
Managing all claims made against the council, you will have particular responsibility for employers public liability claims, from inception through to completion, assessing liability and quantum.
Working closely with solicitors, loss adjusters, investigators and internal colleagues, you will ensure correct decisions are reached within timescales.
You will provide feedback and advice on managing risks within the council, preparing reports on claims, insurance and risk related matters, with regular liaison with the council's Health and Safety Team.
Participating in the review, identification and definition of the assets and liabilities of the council, you will ensure a cost-effective programme of risk management and insurance.
Regularly, you will respond to enquiries and advise on matters concerning risk and insurance, arranging insurance cover when appropriate.
What we need from you:
We require you to have experience of highways and subsidence claims, with a good understanding of personal injury litigation including the pre-action protocol and current CPR rules.
It is essential that you have proven experience of handling employers and public liability claims, including assessing liability and quantum.
Given the nature of the role, you need to have the ability to form conclusions and objective balanced opinions from the analysis of evidence. You will demonstrate awareness and creative thinking of the situation, seeking appropriate assistance where necessary.
To offer a professional approach to both members of the public and commercial organisations, you must have clear and concise written and oral communication.
You will have experience in using a case management system, claims data base, reporting systems and Microsoft Word.
Total commitment to providing the best service is key, you will facilitate regular reviews and monitoring, whilst working to strict deadlines.
