About the team/Department you will be joining:





An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Operational Support Services for a Road Safety Officer, based at Headquarters but covering the whole South Wales Police force area. The Road Safety Officer forms part of a larger team which includes the Roads Policing Unit, the Casualty Reduction Team and the Safer Roads Team, whilst falling under the direct supervision and guidance of the Roads Policing Inspector. Whilst there in an expectancy that the successful applicant will work 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, we will offer flexibility should it be required.
About the role and your key responsibilities:


The role of the Road Safety Officer is varied and will include duties such as:

promoting road safety through education with Operation Options managing the acquisition of the Lion Breath Test devices and calibration gas bottles, addressing any servicing requirements, reporting defects, training supervisors in the calibration of the Breath Test devices and associated admin and acting as a liaison for the various Operational Support Units ensuring our continued commitment to force and NPCC road safety operations through producing Operational Orders when required, liaising with Roads Policing Senior Management team, Roads Policing Officers, Neighbourhood Policing teams, PCSO's, Corporate Comms team Local Authority, the DVLA as well as the other 3 Welsh forces and the 2 Fire and Rescue services covered by SWP

What skills and experience do we need you to bring to the role:


We are looking for someone who is as passionate about road safety as we are, but also

has sound knowledge and understanding of the Road Traffic Act, the Road Traffic Offenders Act and associated legislation


has excellent verbal and written communication skills and is able to present road safety initiatives and education to various internal and external agencies, stakeholders, and partners in an interesting, engaging and informative manner


has experience of working independently and with minimal supervision to successfully achieve tasks, meet deadlines and produce detailed road safety related reports for internal and external partners through sound working knowledge of Microsoft products
