Job Description

The Surfacing Gang Team Leader is responsible for the efficient and safe execution of road surfacing tasks within a designated 2/3 person team. This role involves leading a small group of operatives, ensuring quality workmanship, and maintaining a productive work environment. The Team Leader will work closely with the Surfacing contracts manager to achieve project goals and adhere to all safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership:
Direct and supervise a small team of surfacing operatives.
Assign daily tasks and ensure efficient workflow.
Provide clear instructions and guidance to team members.
Motivate and encourage team members to achieve high performance.
Resolve minor team conflicts and escalate issues to the Foreman as needed.
Surfacing Operations:
Perform and oversee various surfacing tasks, including asphalt laying, paving, and compaction.
Ensure work is carried out to the required specifications and quality standards.
Operate and maintain surfacing equipment and tools safely and effectively.
Monitor material usage and minimize waste.
Safety Compliance:
Enforce all site safety regulations and procedures.
Conduct daily toolbox talks and safety briefings.
Identify and report potential hazards to the Foreman.
Ensure team members use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Quality Control:
Maintain a high standard of workmanship.
Conduct regular quality checks to ensure compliance with specifications.
Identify and rectify defects or errors promptly.
Report any quality issues to the Foreman.
Communication and Collaboration:
Communicate effectively with the Foreman and other team members.
Provide regular updates on progress and any issues encountered.
Collaborate with other teams and contractors on site.
Maintain accurate records of work completed.
Equipment and Maintenance:
Ensure that tools and equipment are properly maintained and in safe working order.
Report any equipment faults to the foreman.
Qualifications and Skills:

Proven experience in road surfacing or a related construction field.
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Knowledge of asphalt laying and paving techniques.
Proficiency in operating surfacing equipment and tools.
Understanding of health and safety regulations.
Valid driver's license (may be required).
CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) or equivalent.
Ability to work in all weather conditions. Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
Ability to work in outdoor environments.
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: 150.00-180.00 per day
