What you'll be doing:
Our Construction Delivery team keeps Dorset moving. We look after more than 2,400 miles of roads, along with bridges, footways, drainage, signs and more. With our work programme growing, we have a range of roles on offer:
Roadworker Level 1 (24,790 - 26,409)
- entry level, with potential to join an apprenticeship (starting at 25,992).
Roadworker Level 2 / Ganger (25,992 - 28,624)
- for those with highways or construction experience, or LGV drivers.
Roadworker Level 3 / Chargehand (27,711 - 31,586)
- leading and supervising highway or construction projects.
You're dedicated, keen to work outdoors, and eager to build a career in highways. You care about your local community and want to help keep Dorset a great place to live, work and visit.
If you've got hands-on experience in construction or supervision, brilliant. If not, we'll give you the training and support to grow.
What we need from you:
You'll need a full driving licence, a positive approach to learning, teamwork and reliability. Experience in any of the following is helpful but not essential: surfacing, line marking, kerbing, drainage, fencing, plant or agricultural work, or driving HGVs.
For an informal discussion please contact Ross Sturmey ross.sturmey@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk or Paul Hughes paul.hughes@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk (Senior Construction Managers) on 01305 228100
This is a full time role at 37 hours per week.
Because we keep roads safe all year round, there's a requirement to join an out-of-hours standby rota. This comes with a standby payment currently at 185.61 per week, plus overtime for emergency call outs paid at time and a half. We'll also train you to drive LGVs for gritting and snow clearance.
