for Room Leader



To lead and manage a designated room within the nursery, ensuring a high standard of physical, emotional, social, and intellectual care for children aged 0-5. The Room Leader will be responsible for a team of practitioners, planning and implementing engaging activities in line with the EYFS framework, and ensuring the smooth daily running of the room.

Key Responsibilities:Leadership & Management



Lead and support a team of nursery practitioners in your designated room. Foster a positive team culture through role modeling, coaching, and ongoing support. Ensure all staff in the room are following safeguarding, health & safety, and nursery policies and procedures. Conduct regular room meetings and feedback sessions with your team. Liaise with the Nursery Manager and contribute to the strategic development of the nursery.

Childcare & Curriculum



Ensure a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment for all children. Plan and implement age-appropriate, engaging activities in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of planned activities and adjust accordingly. Observe and assess children's development, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records. Work closely with parents/carers to build strong partnerships and keep them informed about their child's progress.

Safeguarding, Health & Safety



Ensure all children are safeguarded and their welfare is promoted. Maintain cleanliness and organization within the room. Perform daily health and safety checks. Administer first aid and medication when required (with appropriate training).

Administrative Duties



Contribute to nursery planning, assessments, and reviews. Participate in staff meetings, training, and development activities. Assist with room rotas, staff deployment, and mentoring junior staff or students. Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Person Specification:



Essential:



Level 3 or above qualification in Early Years Education and Childcare. At least 1 year of experience in a nursery or early years setting. Strong understanding of the EYFS and safeguarding procedures. Proven leadership skills and the ability to manage a small team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Paediatric First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain).

Desirable:



Experience as a Room Leader or Senior Nursery Practitioner. SEN experience or training. Knowledge of child development tracking software (e.g. Tapestry).

To build and maintain strong partnership working with parents to enable children's needs to be met.

Main Purpose and Activities:



To ensure all members of the room-team are effectively delivering the EYFS, ensuring that the individual needs and interests of children in the nursery are met. To ensure the whole team keep records of their key children's development and learning journeys and share with parents, carers and other key adults in the child's life. To support management team to develop and up-skill staff practice, support all staff and engage in a good staff team. To develop and maintain strong partnerships and communication with parents/carers to facilitate day-to-day caring and early learning needs. To ensure the provision of a high quality environment to meet the needs of individual children having an awareness of any disabilities, family cultures and medical histories. To advise manager/deputy of any concerns, e.g. over children, parents, the safety of the environment, preserving confidentiality as necessary. To be involved in out of working hours activities, e.g. training, monthly staff meetings, etc To be flexible within working practices of the setting, undertaking other responsible duties where needed, such as domestic tasks, preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment, etc. To work alongside the manager and staff team to ensure that the nursery's philosophy and ethos are fulfilled. To read, understand and adhere to all policies and procedures relevant to your role and the safe running of the nursery. To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff that is acquired as part of the job. To be aware of the high profile of the nursery and to uphold its standards at all times, both in work hours and outside. To support and mentor nursery assistants, students and volunteers. To ensure good standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times. To undertake and lead on additional responsibilities such as training coordinator, festivals coordinator, social media coordinator, etc...
