Room Leader - Key ResponsibilitiesLead Your Room & Inspire Your Team
Provide day-to-day leadership and guidance to practitioners within your room.
Support, mentor, and motivate staff to deliver high-quality care and education.
Ensure a consistent, nurturing, and organised environment where children thrive.
Support Children's Development
Oversee planning and delivery of engaging, age-appropriate activities.
Carry out observations and assessments for your key children and support staff with theirs.
Ensure all activities align with EYFS requirements and meet each child's individual needs.
Work Closely With Families & Colleagues
Build strong, positive relationships with parents and carers.
Communicate clearly and professionally, offering support and feedback where needed.
Collaborate with the wider team to maintain a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and nursery events to support ongoing development.
Maintain a Safe, Stimulating Environment
Uphold high standards of cleanliness, organisation, and safety.
Ensure compliance with all nursery policies, procedures, and safeguarding requirements.
Promote an inclusive environment that celebrates children from all cultures and backgrounds.
Provide Essential Care
Support children during mealtimes, contributing to a warm, social atmosphere.
Assist with changing, washing, and comforting children as needed.
Respond sensitively to individual needs, ensuring every child feels valued and secure.
Person Specification Qualifications
Minimum NVQ Level 3 in Childcare (Level 2 may be considered with strong experience)
GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent)
Experience
Previous early years experience is essential
Leadership or room responsibility experience is highly desirable
Skills & Personal Qualities
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Confident with ICT and documentation
Calm, positive, and nurturing approach
Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide and motivate others
Ability to work sensitively and professionally with families
Commitment to delivering a safe, stimulating learning environment
Hours & Structure
8am-3.30pm Monday to Friday, term-time only -- ideal for work-life balance!
