Job Description

Following significant investment by the Trust we are looking for up to ten Band 6 or Band 7 pharmacists to join our - PROPEL Programme ( P lymouth R otational O pportunity for P rogression through E xperience & L earning), structured rotational development programme.



Applications are open to current trainee pharmacists, pharmacists in their early years of career, those new to hospital pharmacy with experience in other sectors or with specific visa requirements.



Dependent on your knowledge skills and previous experience you will join as either a Band 6 or Band 7 clinical pharmacists. You will be supported through our training programme and progression pathway which will enable you to develop a portfolio to prepare for advanced clinical practice and Band 8a roles.



This role is for enthusiastic and motivated newly qualified or experienced pharmacists looking to further develop their clinical skills alongside gaining significant teaching, training, leadership, and management experience in order to aid career progression for more senior roles.

Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.



PROPEL Programme ( P lymouth R otational O pportunity for P rogression through E xperience & L earning)



Band 6 Rotational Pharmacists:



Guaranteed progression to Band 7 role after 18 months (subject to competency milestones)



Fully funded Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy- with protected study time



Undertake 3-month core rotations including:

Mixed Medical Admissions, Mixed Surgical Care, Healthcare of Older People, Generalised Paediatrics, Aseptic Services, Clinical Screening and Medicines Information



Work laptop and mobile phone



Support and mentoring by experienced pharmacists



Relocation packages offered dependent on eligibility



Band 7 Rotational Pharmacists:



Ready to apply for Band 8a roles within 18 months



Fully funded certificate in Diploma Clinical Pharmacy- with protected study time



Undertake 6-month core specialised or optional specialised rotations including: gastroenterology, paediatrics and neonatal medicine, neurology, cardiology, respiratory, microbiology, critical care, urgent & emergency care, clinical trials, cancer services and aseptics, hepatology, patient safety, governance and formulary, clinical academic & research



Work as part of wider MDT's with involvement in audit, change management, quality improvement projects, supervise others, formulary review and medicines optimisation.



Upon completion of diploma fully funded Non Medical Prescribing or other further study e.g. MSc

As part of the PROPEL Programme (Plymouth Rotational Opportunity for Progression through Experience & Learning):



To participate in defined and structured Band 6 core or Band 7 specialised rotations across a variety of settings within pharmacy and clinical specialities. With learning outcomes and training and education opportunities linked to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Frameworks. To undertake in fully funded further study appropriate to the role e.g. Diploma/Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy Practice and Non-Medical Prescribing. To participate in the delivery of a high-quality clinical pharmacy service ensuring the safe, effective, and economical use of medicines for patients attending and admitted to University Hospitals Plymouth. To participate in ward based clinical pharmacy services to support the safe prescribing and administrations of medicines. This may include activities drug history taking and medicines reconciliation, medicine supply, patient medication consultations, medicines optimisation services, discharge medication service (DMS) and any other activities associated with medicines management. To provide expert advice on medications (supply & clinical issues) to clinical staff across the organisation. To provide teaching and clinical supervision of pharmacy staff (pharmacists, technicians & support staff) and other healthcare professionals across the organisation. Undertake audits and engage with the departments Quality Improvement and practice research projects. * Participate in the on-call and out of hours service as per departmental rota
