The Role



We're looking for a practical, self-motivated

Rural Heating & Power Technician

with a experience in a mechanical/electrical discipline to join our growing engineering team.

This is a hands-on role where you'll work on

Biomass and

Oil boilers

,

Solar PV and

Solar Thermal

systems

and

heat pump technologies

across commercial and domestic rural customer sites.

You'll handle everything from routine servicing to reactive repairs and system upgrades. You'll also support Solar PV installs.

For the right candidate, this role offers clear progression into senior engineer or supervisor positions -- with full training mapped out in our company skills matrix

Report to the

Operations Director

and collaborate with the wider engineering team.

Key Responsibilities



Service, maintain, and repair a range of

biomass boiler

brands and associated plant (eg: ETA, Froling, KWB, Solar Focus, etc.). Carry out diagnostics, fault-finding, and efficiency optimisation on heating systems. Maintain, repair, and install

oil boilers

,

heat pumps

, and

solar thermal

systems. Complete accurate job reports using our digital field software (no paperwork). Liaise with suppliers to coordinate quotes, parts orders and project delivery schedules. Support Solar PV installations (training provided). Assist with

commissioning

,

retrofits

, and

performance upgrades

. Identify improvement opportunities and contribute to the development and maintenance of systems.

Travel Radius



We cover Cumbria, Northumberland, D&G and the Borders -- typically within a

2-hour radius

of our home base. Overnight stays are occasional, pre-planned, and fully paid.

Essential Skills & Qualifications



Hands-on experience of commercial and domestic heating systems - Biomass would be advantageous, but a minimum of a strong HVAC/M&E background would be required. Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills. Comfortable reading wiring/hydraulic diagrams and technical manuals.

NVQ Level 3 qualification

in a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering discipline (or equivalent). Full UK driving licence. Confident, professional communicator - with both customers and teammates. Ability to use phone, tablet and laptop based applications and software.
