Priory School, Bury St Edmunds 20 hours per week, 40 weeks per year - Permanent Salary: 27,255 - 29,541 per annum (Dependent on qualifications and experience) Actual Salary: 12,827 - 13,903 per annum
We are seeking a dedicatedSafeguarding Practitioner to join our Welfare and Safeguarding team, working closely with Student Welfare, Personal Progress Tutors and teaching staff. In this vital role, you will assess student needs and signpost them to appropriate health, mental health and emotional-support agencies, while managing child protection and PREVENT referrals to MASH or other relevant services. You will also offer guidance on bursaries, student finance, housing and Welfare Rights, helping students access the support they need to thrive.

You will recognise and respond to safeguarding concerns with professional curiosity, maintain accurate and timely welfare records, and liaise confidently with external agencies such as police, social care and mental-health services. The role includes undertaking student assessments, monitoring vulnerable groups, advocating on behalf of students, and contributing to staff safeguarding training as you develop into an Alternate DSL. Representing the school at external meetings and promoting resilience, confidentiality and independence will form an essential part of your practice.

We are looking for someone organised, empathetic and resilient, with excellent communication skills and experience supporting young people. A degree in a related field and knowledge of safeguarding, welfare rights, mental health or student finance is desirable, alongside a commitment to ongoing professional development. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required, and as part of the Eastern Education Group, you may support safeguarding activity across partner organisations.
