Job Details

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board in North Wales is a dynamic and patient focused organisation. The Health Board are responsible for the direct management of a number of GP Practices and are developing these practices to be gold standard exemplars, creating services that are better able to meet the needs of the local population, easier to access and navigate, and are a rewarding and satisfying place to work.

The Health Board is looking for GPs who believe in a vision for high quality medical care and compassion within primary care, and who want to actively engage in delivering this in GP Practice sites across Wrexham and Flintshire.

Both full time (37.5 hrs per week) and part time positions will be considered.

Main duties of the job

In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care, including:

  • Manage a patient caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting undertaking a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone, video, and email consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, providing advice to other colleagues, and dealing with queries, paperwork, referrals and correspondence in a timely manner
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, supporting other team members by sharing clinical knowledge and experience
  • Demonstrating through day-to-day action a contemporary approach to Primary Care which is patient-centred, prudent and team-enabling.
This role will require flexibility to meet the demands of the practice and an individual work plan will be agreed in advance with the successful applicant.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise and entry on the GP Register
  • Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Practice / Certificate Confirming Eligibility for General Practice Registration (CEGPR), or equivalent
  • Included on a Medical Performers List or eligible for inclusion
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
Desirable
  • Academic excellence (prizes, merits, distinctions etc.)
  • MRCGP
  • Other relevant specialist interests & skills
Experience
Essential
  • Vocational GP training
  • Experience in general practice and working in multi-disciplinary team
Desirable
  • Eligibility for minor surgery, obstetrics, family planning accreditation
Skills
Essential
  • Proven ability to handle a busy and varied primary care caseload and respond flexibly to workload fluctuations
  • Ability to take independent clinical decisions when necessary and to seek advice from senior doctors as appropriate
  • Commitment to team approach and multi-disciplinary working
  • Effective counselling and communication skills
  • Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance
  • Commitment to participating in and understanding of the management process
