Job Description

We have a terrific opportunity for a motivated assistant to join our well-respected and much-loved local hospice charity and the new exciting sub brand 'The Hangar' at The Wisdom Hospice. You will be based in our exciting warehouse location in Rochester.

We are looking for a self-starter someone who is proactive and keen with excellent customer service skills who will build strong, lasting relationships and to generate income for the charity.

Our wish list includes previous experience in charity retail; effective volunteer management skills, ability to motivate and influence people, and the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of people. We are ideally looking for someone who is creative and from a charity retail background with a strong knowledge of brands. We are willing to consider those with proven experience in other retail environments with a real passion and desire to succeed.

1. Job Dimensions



To support the Hangar Retail Manager with ensuring sufficient stock is processed daily to maintain the required stock density in store.

Meeting agreed financial targets. Maintaining effective stock management and merchandising. Assist in managing and training volunteers. Carrying out shop administration. Following health and safety procedures and giving training when needed. Implementing and ensuring the growth of our Gift Aid scheme. Leading the team in the managers absence when required, this includes opening and closing of the unit and banking procedures. Flexible in business locations in order to support the business. Flexibility to work Monday to Sunday shifts as required

2. Principal accountabilities and responsibilities



Stock Management



Receive, sort, prepare, price and maintain stock of donations for sale. Ensure the pricing structure for the warehouse is adhered to which is set by the Retail Management. Maintain a high standard of merchandising and display in store. Ensure good housekeeping is adhered to, always, in accordance with our Health & Safety training and risk assessment. Implement and maintain our Gift Aid Scheme in accordance with HMRC policies and processes. Work to our Retail procedures. Provide a courteous and helpful service to the public.
Stock may include clothing, electrics, books, media, toys, homeware and furniture items.

Management of Volunteers



Assist with the recruiting, training and retention of our volunteers. Support the manager with assigning tasks to the volunteers. Work with the manager and motivate volunteers to develop their processing and merchandising skills. Identify opportunities within the community to raise the profile of the shop.

Management of policies and procedures



To be aware of and comply with all Hospices Health & Safety policies relating to the welfare and safety of volunteers and the operation of the store and all items sold. Ensure that all volunteers respect the unique contribution of every individual and work positively in an equal opportunity and diverse environment. To be aware of and comply with Trading Standards Legislation.

3. Measures of Success



Achieving Agreed measurable targets. Excellent customer service. Volunteer recruitment, training and retention. Regular ongoing performance review and appraisal. Gift Aid sign ups, Agreed Gift Aid Sales percentage.
