The Scarborough Joke Shop is looking for a responsible, confident, and enthusiastic individual to join our small but busy team.

This is a surprisingly diverse and hands-on role in a long-established independent shop, selling jokes, fancy dress, magic tricks, novelty gifts, and adult humour items. No two days are the same, and the job requires a positive attitude, common sense, and the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:

Providing friendly, confident, and professional customer service Advising customers on products, including magic tricks and novelty items Handling cash and card payments accurately Maintaining high standards of shop cleanliness and presentation Receiving deliveries and organising stock Stock management, replenishment, and basic merchandising Packing and dispatching online orders efficiently and accurately
Online & Dispatch Work:

In addition to in-store retail, we trade online via eBay, Amazon, and our own website. This side of the business is fast-paced and demanding, requiring:

Careful order picking and packing Meeting strict dispatch deadlines Attention to detail and accuracy Confidence using computers and basic online systems
Full training will be provided, but reliability and a strong work ethic are essential.

About You:

Confident, reliable, and well-presented Comfortable speaking to a wide range of customers Able to use initiative and work without constant supervision Organised and capable of managing multiple tasks Comfortable working around adult novelty items Punctual and dependable
Hours & Availability:

Part-time position

Minimum

2 days per week (14 hours)

A Weekend day is essential

Eligibility:

Applicants must be aged 16 or over

Job Types: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 6 months

Pay: 7.55-12.51 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 14 per week
