Job Description

Thanet Earth is one of the largest employers in East Kent. During seasonal peaks we can have up to 900 people working on site, whether that's in one of our six greenhouses, in our packing factory or in our commercial and administration team.

We want to make sure we have the right people in place to support our growth and we are now looking for a bright and enthusiastic Sales Ledger Assistant to join our Finance team based at Thanet Earth in Birchington, Kent.

Due to our remote location and limited public transportation options, candidates must have their own means of transport for daily commuting.



You will be part of a small team responsible for managing the accounts receivable process across all supported businesses ensuring all duties are completed in a timely and accurate manner. The role provides the opportunity to grow alongside the company and drive improvements as it continues to expand.

Other responsibilities include:

To ensure that all sales invoices and related transactions are promptly and accurately recorded. That all funds due are collected within agreed timescales, and only appropriate deductions are made by customers. Reconcile customer accounts and investigate discrepancies, liaising with customers to resolve payment queries. Assist with month-end procedures and reporting, including reconciliation of bank statements Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers.
Key skills & knowledge:

Level 2 AAT qualified or equivalent and experience of working with an accounting/finance role. An intermediate level of Excel skills to manipulate data in spreadsheets, create lookups, pivot tables etc. Demonstrate attention to detail, a proactive attitude and aptitude for query resolution. Productive either as a team worker or when working alone and possess the ability to work under pressure.
A day in the life.......

"You will play an active role within the finance department ensuring customers pay on time for the goods we deliver. Responsible for your own customer accounts you will generate sales invoices, match incoming payments from the bank to customer accounts, follow up on late payments to ensure all funds due are paid and liaise with teams within the business and customers to investigate and resolve queries preventing payment. You will also handle bank reconciliations, process journals and assist with month end tasks. There will also be ad-hoc duties as directed by the Sales Ledger Manager and Financial Controller to provide a rounded and interesting role."
