Role Overview
We are seeking a qualified and compassionate Collection Nurse to join our clinical team. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting biological samples from patients and donors across various programmes, including our cord blood donation initiative and research tissue banking services. This role is essential in supporting our mission to advance medical research whilst providing exceptional patient care

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties:
Perform venepuncture and other sample collection procedures safely and efficiently
Collect cord blood samples in maternity settings following established protocols
Obtain biological samples for research purposes in accordance with ethical guidelines
Ensure proper sample handling, labelling, and storage procedures
Maintain accurate documentation and patient records
Conduct pre-collection health assessments and obtain informed consent
Patient Care:
Provide compassionate care and support to patients and donors
Explain collection procedures clearly and address patient concerns
Ensure patient comfort and dignity throughout the collection process
Recognise and respond appropriately to adverse reactions
Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
Quality Assurance:
Adhere to all clinical governance and quality standards
Follow infection control and health and safety protocols
Participate in quality audits and continuous improvement initiatives
Maintain competency through ongoing training and development
Report incidents and near misses appropriately
Administrative:
Complete accurate documentation and data entry
Liaise with clinical teams, laboratories, and research coordinators
Participate in team meetings and training sessions
Support community engagement and education initiatives
Essential RequirementsQualifications:
Registered Nurse (RN) with current NMC registration or Health Care Support Worker
Post-registration experience in clinical practice
Venepuncture certification and competency (Training given)
Valid DBS clearance
Experience:
Experience in sample collection or laboratory liaison preferred
Maternity or women's health experience advantageous
Skills and Attributes:

Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Flexibility to work across different clinical settings

Desirable Requirements
Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
Additional qualifications in women's health or research
