The

School Accountant

plays a key role in supporting the financial health and operational accuracy of the school, its commercial enterprise and Trusts. This role combines strong technical accounting expertise with a hands-on approach to financial administration, internal reporting and project management. The School Accountant will also deputise for the Financial Controller, working directly with the Chief Financial Officer, as needed.

Main Responsibilities:



Financial Reporting and Compliance for the School and Commercial Enterprise Accounting and VAT Finance Projects and Systems Operations and Administration Survey and Data Returns
You may be required to undertake other tasks and duties that commensurate with the grade and nature of the role and/or in the reasonable discretion of the School.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential



ACA, ACCA, CIMA part-qualified or fully qualified (or equivalent experience). Strong technical accounting knowledge, including preparation of statutory accounts and VAT compliance. Hands-on experience with financial schedules and internal financial reporting. Advanced Excel skills and strong experience with finance systems. Organised and methodical, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.

Desirable



Experience in the independent school sector, charity accounting, or education finance. Familiarity with accounting systems used in schools (e.g. WCBS Pass). Experience managing or supporting finance projects, external audits, and statutory returns. Effective communicator, comfortable engaging with both finance and non-finance colleagues. The position is full time, all year round (

term time only plus 4 weeks will be considered

). The salary will be within the range of 35,000 to 40,000 (full time equivalent) depending on experience and qualifications.
