Responsible to



The Headteacher of the Pre-Prep and Nursery School and the Bursar & Chief Operating Officer, who has overall responsibility for support staff.

Responsible for



The School Bus Chaperone ensures the safety and well-being of young children during their bus journey from school. This role involves supervising children, assisting with boarding and disembarking and putting seat belts on the children. Maintaining a safe and orderly environment on the bus.

This role is crucial for ensuring a safe and positive experience for young children during their end of day commute.

Main responsibilities:



Supervision:

Monitoring and supervising children during bus rides to ensure their safety and well-being.

Assistance:

Helping children board and disembark the bus safely, supporting children putting on their seat belts. Ensuring the younger Pre-Prep and Nursery children are passed to their parent/carer on arrival.

Attendance:

Registering children before they board the bus, ensuring all scheduled passengers are present.

Behaviour Management:

Maintaining high standards of behaviour on the bus, addressing any issues in accordance with school policies.

Safety Compliance:

Ensuring children wear seatbelts and follow safety protocols during the journey.

Communication:

Reporting any concerns or incidents to the Headteacher and communicating with parents if necessary.

Emergency Response:

Responding to emergencies and providing first aid if required.

Medical Assistance:

Ensuring the medical needs of the children are met including management of epi pens and inhalers.
The above list is not exhaustive but summarises the key roles to be performed. A willingness to respond supportively to changing circumstances or the changing needs of the School is part of working in a school environment and is expected of the postholder.

Pension Scheme



If applicable, you will be automatically enrolled into the King Edward's School, Bath Group Personal Pension Plan with an employer's contribution of 6% of salary, to be matched by a 2% employee contribution.

DBS Clearance



All appointments are made subject to satisfactory DBS clearance. The suitability of all prospective employees or volunteers will be assessed during the recruitment process in line with this commitment

Safeguarding



All staff are in a position of trust and have a duty to keep children and young people safe and to protect them from neglect and physical and emotional harm. This duty is in part exercised through the development of respectful, caring and professional relationships between staff, children, and young people. Staff are expected to be familiar with the local child protection arrangements and understand their responsibilities to safeguard and protect children and young people.

Paediatric first aid certification

Knowledge and Experience



Previous experience of working with children

Demonstrate good verbal communication abilities, ensuring clarity and effective exchange of information with children and colleagues.

Possesses excellent interpersonal skills, fostering positive relationships with both children and colleagues.

Ability to resolve conflict, confidence in identifying and resolving issues,

A compassionate and patient approach, showing empathy and understanding, particularly in challenging or stressful situations.
