We have an exciting opportunity for a School Caretaker to make a genuine difference in our pupil's lives at our trauma-centred therapeutic schools, in Essex.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are seeking a full-time School Caretaker to join our team in Essex on a 3-6 month Fixed Term Contract (FTC), with an immediate or as soon as possible start date.
You will oversee the day-to-day management of site maintenance, cleanliness, and security, working flexibly across both Essex sites - Great Baddow site, CM2 7HH and South Woodham site, CM3 5BF. A full driving licence and access to your own transport are essential, as travel between sites is required.
You'll be the first point of contact for all premises-related matters, including emergencies, and act as the Health & Safety representative for the cluster. Your practical skills, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail will help ensure that our schools remain compliant, welcoming, and safe for pupils and staff alike.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Carry out regular site checks, maintenance, and repairs, ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation and independent school standards.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests, prioritising safety and efficiency.
Oversee and liaise with external contractors, ensuring work is completed to a high standard and within budget.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance, inspections, and compliance documentation.
Take pride in ensuring the school sites are always well-presented, safe, and functional.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Previous experience in caretaking, facilities, or site management (essential)
A good understanding of Health & Safety and compliance regulations (HSE, fire safety, COSHH)
A proactive, problem solving attitude and the ability to work independently
Strong practical skills in basic maintenance, plumbing, electrical, and repair work
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
An understanding of the needs of pupils with SEMH, and how emotional distress can manifest in a range of behaviours, which may occasionally result in damage to property.
