Job Description

Norfolk House is a highly successful co-educational, independent day school for pupils aged two to eleven, occupying two charming Victorian sites in Muswell Hill, north London.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced and highly motivated School Caretaker. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the upkeep and improvements of facilities across both our Upper School (on Muswell Avenue) and Lower School (Princes Avenue), ensuring high standards of health & safety and assisting the School Business Manager to keep the school environment as well-presented, welcoming and safe for pupils and staff as possible.

We are looking for a flexible and productive individual, who holds themselves and others to the highest standards, has a strong work ethic and who is able to take initiative and seek solutions independently where issues are identified. If you enjoy working hard and are motivated by seeing the results of your efforts, this position will both motivate and engage you.

Personal Requirements



A hardworking, reliable, honest, dependable, self motivated person Previous experience in a caretaker, site or facilities management position, such that you are familiar with maintaining a premises to a high level. Conscientious, proactive and alert so that you can fulfill effectively the safety requirements involved in looking after a school. Knowledge of health and safety regulations is highly desirable. Competent and capable of independently undertaking general DIY repairs and maintenance, including basic carpentry, plumbing and decorating. Excellent problem-solving skills and good communication skills to interact with staff, students, and external contractors. Have a willingness to undertake professional development training and certifications. A valid, clean driving license would be advantageous, but is not essential. Working pattern to be discussed and agreed upon. There is flexibility to spread your hours out over the week or condense them into days. This role is all year round and will require you to work during school holidays.
