The chef is required to cook food, create menus, and help manage production and delivery of meals to provide for St Michael Abbey School busy catering service daily. The chef is instrumental in helping to keep the kitchen running smoothly by making sure everything is delivered on time. This role involves the operation of cooking equipment and good physical health, and fitness is paramount due to the nature of the physical demands of the job. The chef forms part of the catering team in school and report to the chef manager
We have a variety of shifts available, this includes daytimes ,weekends and early evenings on a flexible rota system.
Responsibilities
Oversee daily kitchen operations, ensuring smooth workflow and adherence to organisational standards
Prepare, cook, and present a variety of dishes according to established recipes and quality standards
Ensure all food safety regulations are strictly followed, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen
Collaborate with management on menu development and innovation to meet customer preferences
Monitor stock levels, order supplies, and manage inventory efficiently
Maintain a positive working environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth
Skills
Proven experience in food preparation, cooking, and kitchen management within a hospitality environment
Strong knowledge of food safety standards and regulations
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure
Experience in food production for restaurants or similar establishments
Good communication skills to liaise effectively with staff and management
Knowledge of hospitality industry practices including serving procedures and customer service excellence
