Job Overview



The role of School Nurse oversees all health aspects of student welfare throughout The Abbey School and is responsible for the provision of health care to the School.

Key responsibilities



The postholder will:

Day to day responsibility for the school nursing offer and appropriate health provision. Appropriate involvement with student records relating to health issues on entrance to the School. Creating and updating individual health care plans where relevant. Administration of medication, during school hours. Provision of medical care in an emergency to staff, students and anyone else lawfully on school premises at the time. Liaison with parents regarding health concerns and related issues. Ordering appropriate medical and first aid supplies within the agreed budget. Dissemination of relevant information to appropriate people. Liaison with external agencies e.g. community school nurses and CAMHS. Training of staff or organisation of appropriate training regarding particular medical conditions. Liaising with 'Skills for Life (SFL)/PSHE' Co-ordinator regarding the planning and delivering of health promotion activities to complement the SFL programme, and helping to deliver aspects of the programme in the classroom if required. Ensuring accessible health promotion materials are readily available to staff and students throughout the school. Contribution to the formulation and updating of relevant policies. Adhering to record keeping practices as per the NMC guidelines. Updating student medical records on the school's management system (iSAMS). Recording of medical and/or pastoral concerns on the school's safeguarding software (CPOMS). Working closely with the school's other wellbeing staff: the School Counsellor, First Aider, and Wellbeing Practitioner. Meeting regularly with key members of the Pastoral leadership team. Overseeing and organising the immunisation programmes provided by NHS colleagues. Responsibility for the on-site First Aid kits and providing First Aid kits for off-site activities and trips.

Candidate Requirements



Reliable, punctual, well presented and personable. Good verbal and written communications. A pleasant and friendly manner. Understanding of safeguarding requirements, notably within an educational setting. Seeks to demonstrate and encourage our key purpose in all ways: to equip students to live with confidence, purpose and joy. Proactive and enthusiastic team player. Demonstrates and represents the School's values of courage, honesty and kindness. Committed to promoting the wellbeing of students. Experience of working in an education environment is an advantage, but not essential. RGN/RSCN preferred but other nursing qualifications will be considered.

We have one vacant position:

A permanent, part time working 22.5 hours over three days, term time only position.

The salary range for this role is: 18,469 - 20,715 pro rata (39,041 - 43,789 FTE)

All eligible, non-teaching employees will be automatically enrolled into the non-contributory Group Pension Scheme, run by ReAssure after 3 months employment with the school. The School contributes 8.35% of the monthly salary into the pension scheme.
