Duties.
The School Welfare Officer is responsible for the following areas:
Medical and First Aid Duties
Administering front-line
First Aid
and welfare support to students, staff, and visitors on-site during school hours.
Assessing student medical or welfare needs and determining whether a parent/carer needs to be contacted for the student to be collected from school.
Overseeing the receipt and administration of student medication taken during the school day.
Monitoring and maintaining all on-site medication (such as Adrenaline Auto Injectors and inhalers) to ensure correct storage, labelling, and checking expiry dates.
Notifying parents/carers of any out-of-date medication that requires replacing.
Coordinating and managing school-wide
Immunisation
programs.
Administration and Record Keeping
Maintaining
accurate records
related to student medical information and medication.
Inputting all new students' medical information into the school's data system (SIMS or similar).
Implementing and managing individual student
healthcare plans
as necessary.
Completing and collating
Accident Forms
for school records and parent/carer information.
Providing a summary of accidents for the Governing Body.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential:
4 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A to C) including English and mathematics. Knowledge of computerised systems including Word and Excel.
Thorough understanding and ability to
implement Child Protection procedures.
Desirable:
Registered nurse or nursing qualification.
Emergency First Aid qualification (First Aid at Work Level 3 is desirable).
Medical training (training can be provided).
Experience and Skills
Previous experience of working with
children or young adults.
Prior experience as a Welfare Officer, School Nurse, or in a similar role is highly desirable.
Experience of using a School Data System (Bromcom).
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
