Science Teacher and Outdoor Activity Lead - Horizons Independent School
Contract: Full Time hours, Permanent, overnight stays when leading expeditions
Location: Horizons Independent School
Responsible to: Headteacher
Salary: Teacher Salary Mainscale+ (33,000-48,500 Per Annum)
Start Date: As soon as possible
Purpose of the Role:
To lead Science in KS3 and KS4 working towards recognised outcomes including GCSE or equivalent with our community of secondary students with Special Educational Needs, developing environments and building a programme of study catering for the needs of our learners.
Horizons are looking for an ambitious secondary practitioner who is dedicated, engaging and inspiring Science Teacher able to provide superb learning experiences for their students across their KS3 & KS4 department in a permanent role.
To bring the health and wellbeing programme to life with a focus on outdoor pursuits impacting positively on health and wellbeing.
To lead on Duke of Edinburgh excursions for the students at Horizons and ensure that they feel engaged, empowered and managing their stress and self-regulation would be desirable.

Role/ Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with the curriculum and educational standards
- Push educational development and demonstrate clear progress in all areas of student development
- Identify issues in students' learning and lead health and wellbeing programmes of study to support our strategic vision
- Conduct experiments and demonstrations to enhance students' understanding of scientific concepts
- Commitment to the highest standard of safeguarding expectations
- Working in KS3 & KS4 Science
- Biology, Chemistry or Physics subject specialism preferred
- Utilising broad and exciting secondary Science curriculum
- Prepare students for exams and assessments
- Experience in Duke of Edinburgh excursions and assessment or outdoor activities/outward bounds trips desirable
Essential requirements
- 2:1 or above
- A PGCE
- A strong background in science, with relevant experience
- UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)- Secondary Science
- Biology, Chemistry or Physics specialism
- Open to both recently qualified and experienced teachers
- Good classroom management skillset
- Good or outstanding lesson observations
- Naturally outgoing and engaging individual
- Passionate about education
- Right to work in the UK
- Enhanced DBS on Update Service or willing to get one
