Scientific Data Analyst We are seeking an individual with a combination of computational and scientific expertise to join an early stage drug discovery group and help transform how we acquire, process, visualise, store and integrate our increasing volumes of scientific data. The successful candidate will be embedded alongside the scientists generating and consuming the data, and matrix with the broader data science community across GSK. The role is an exciting opportunity to make a significant difference to our ability to collect and utilise our data, providing large benefits within the group and beyond. You will work in an agile, collaborative environment and join a community of data analysts with roles in related areas, providing opportunities for skills sharing, development and mutual support. You will also have links to, and interface with, our enterprise-level data professionals in AI/ML, infrastructure, data management and data governance. Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Identifying opportunities to improve data processes.
  • Working with scientists to specify improvements to data collection and management.
  • Building and improving data pipelines through a combination of coding/scripting, building user interfaces, and interfacing with existing enterprise data solutions.
  • Implementing new or enhanced analytics solutions.
  • Improving data governance and data integrity.
  • Documenting data workflows and providing training/support to scientists.
  • Being the point of contact between scientific and tech and data infrastructure groups.

Why you? Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
  • Significant experience in both a mathematical/computational field and in a scientific area (including data handling and problem-solving), with a qualification at BSc/MSc/PhD level (or equivalent experience) in one of these disciplines.
  • Demonstrated practical skills in data manipulation, analytics and visualisation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
  • Ability to code/script in R, Python, SQL.
  • Web development experience (HTML5, CSS, Javascript).
  • Experience with enterprise-level data solutions including big-data platforms.
  • Experience generating user-friendly dashboards to integrate and visualise data (e.g. using Spotfire, PowerBI, Tableau).
  • Practical knowledge of molecular biology, cell biology, recombinant protein production, protein characterisation and structure determination, drug discovery, and the data associated with these.
  • Ability to translate data requirements between bench scientists and data/IT professionals.
