the band minimum is the normal starting pay for those new to a role. In exceptional circumstances, when relevant skills and experience can be identified, a higher starting salary may be considered.


We will give full consideration to requests for flexible and part time working, such as reduced hours, compressed hours or job sharing. British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is looking for an exceptional Scientific Data Officer to join the UK Polar Data Centre. BAS delivers and enables world-leading interdisciplinary research in the Polar Regions. You'll be joining the UK Polar Data Centre (PDC), which is part of the Information Services team, and is the focal point for Arctic and Antarctic environmental data mangement in the UK. It is part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Environmental Data Service. The team work closely with scientists across all disciplines within the UK Antarctic community, as well as data scientists within other NERC data centres.


You'll help us to deliver preservation and management of polar data from UK-funded research. We also support researchers in complying with national and international data legislation and policy.


Within the role, there will be an opportunity to develop skills and understanding of current data management practices within a Core Trust Seal accredited data centre.

Some of your main responsibilities will include:

the identification of new grants expected to produce data relevant to the PDC loading and checking monthly spreadsheets of fisheries catch data loading penguin weighbridge data
