The opportunity
Arctech Innovation is seeking a Scientific Project Manager to work in our highly-reputable Services team. Reporting to the Head of Services, you will play a key role in implementing and managing a diverse range of exciting research projects in collaboration with the biggest commercial companies working in pest and vector control based in the UK and internationally. You will be a dynamic, enthusiastic, inquisitive and detail-oriented scientist with entomology, chemical ecology or vector control expertise in the public health, animal health or agricultural sectors, as a core part of your skillset. Together with strong project management, data handling, and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and develop a suite of concurrent projects, with critical point supervision from senior members of the team. This will involve a variety of tasks including:
Project Management:
Writing study schedules aligned with resources and client/partner site requirements
Managing the project within agreed project milestones, scope and budget
Lead on operational aspects of projects including, but not limited to resource management and efficiencies
Risk Management: predicting, troubleshooting and resolving
Serve as the primary contact for clients/sponsors/stakeholders, providing regular updates, maintaining relationships and managing expectations
Writing SOPs, risk assessments, and protocols
Experimental planning and design
Training and supervising where necessary to ensure protocols, SOPs and Risk assessments are adhered to and robust data is generated
Data analysis, interpretation and report writing
Conducting studies in accordance with GLP, GCP and/or regulatory standards, as required, and ensure documentation are maintained in an inspection-ready state for audit and regulatory inspections.
Conducting laboratory testing including experiments with mosquitoes and other insects, when required. This will involve exposure to insect bites
Leading cross functional teams (internally and partner sites)
Ensure a quality assurance programme is in place and adhered to when working with partner sites.
Line management of team members. This will involve
Developing and agreeing SMART objectives relevant to job description and progression
Perform interim and annual performance reviews
Develop and maintain a suitable training programme
Aid personal wellbeing
Provide motivation and support
Providing technical and scientific consultation and recommendations to clients, as required.
Work closely with the Business Development Team in developing and/or reviewing quotations, proposals and grant funding, as required
Regularly feedback to the Senior Leadership team as required
Maintain knowledge in the areas of public health and vector control, and elevating their expertise profile.
Writing of scientific manuscripts and delivery of presentations in meetings (if appropriate).
Handle confidential and industrially sensitive information
Travel oversees when required.
Liaise with members of the public, administrative and support staff.
Assist with other administrative, operational and research activities where required
Requirements
Essential
Science degree and MSc, or equivalent work experience, in a Entomology, Chemical Ecology or Vector Control
Project management knowledge and experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, with excellent attention to detail
Proven ability to juggle a high and varied workload whilst maintaining accuracy
Experience of study design and management of biological data
Proven ability to perform statistical analysis on biological data
Proven ability to work both independently and within a multi-disciplinary team
Desirable
PhD or Knowledge in Entomology, Chemical Ecology or Vector Control
Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice and/or Good Clinical Practice
Knowledge of Biocides Regulatory Guidelines i.e. WHO PQ, ECHA BPR, EPA
Experience of managing and developing junior team members
Experience in project management software i.e. ASANA
