Youll join Research, a crucial department within Singer Instruments which ensures all our innovations are up to the scientific scratch! Whether youre heading up lab experiments which improve our existing products or pinpointing areas for the next opportunity, your expertise in microbiology will be invaluable across the departments of Singers, including but not limited to Engineering, Software, Discovery/Product, Sales & Marketing and Quality!

What you'll bring to our team (key contributions)

Your wet-lab mastery: You'll be the architect of research plans, translating scientific questions and emerging user needs into groundbreaking lab experiments and data analysis strategies, ultimately feeding into innovative product concepts.


Your coding prowess: You'll wield data analysis tools such as R and Python, to leverage the full power of our cutting-edge instruments. Youll develop data analysis workflows, and extract meaningful insights from complex datasets.


Your analytical edge: You'll rigorously test hypotheses, run experiments, and interpret results to ensure your scientific findings meet high standards of quality, ethics, and scientific rigour, driving product performance and customer expectations.


Your product vision & application: You'll play a pivotal role in translating scientific insights and research findings into actionable product requirements and specifications, collaborating closely with Discovery/Product, Sales, and Engineering teams to shape the future of our lab automation systems.


Your collaborative spirit: You'll seamlessly connect with multidisciplinary teams including other R&D teams, Discovery/Product, Sales & Support, and Quality contributing your unique scientific insights to every discussion and articulating complex ideas clearly to both scientists and non-scientists.


Your project leadership: You'll embrace the ownership of your projects, guiding them from inception to successful completion, ensuring high-quality research is delivered with precision and within scope, managing all projects in Jira in line with company policy.


Your drive for excellence: You're a lifelong learner, always curious about the latest scientific methodologies and technologies, striving to push the boundaries of what's possible in laboratory automation and scientific research.

Who you are (essential skills & attributes)
============================================

A natural problem-solver with an insatiable curiosity and a focus on delivery. Someone with a deep understanding of scientific principles and methodologies, eager to apply them creatively to complex research questions, particularly within laboratory settings. Proven laboratory experience, ideally with a background in microbiology or a related life science discipline. Proficient and enthusiastic about using data analysis software (e.g., R, Python) and other scientific instrumentation. A meticulous individual with an eagle eye for detail, ensuring precision in experimental design and data interpretation. An excellent communicator, capable of translating complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences, including engineers, programmers, and other non-scientists. Comfortable working both independently and as a valued member of a diverse team, collaborating within and outside the Research department. Highly organised, adept at managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines. Passionate about new designs, disruptive innovations, and championing the positive impact science plays within our business and in society more broadly, with a particular interest in how these apply to laboratory and scientific instrumentation and future product lines. While full onboard training will be provided, you will need the discipline to autonomously follow safety controls, help with equipment checks and support our COSHH efforts, experience with and knowledge of good health practices, hazardous substances and their controls, would be advantageous.
Your journey so far (qualifications)

We're looking for individuals with a solid foundation in biology with significant laboratory and data analysis experience. Typically, a Masters degree or higher in a relevant biological sciences discipline (microbiology, molecular biology, biotechnology etc.)
