Would you like to apply your Electrical systems safety knowledge to some of the most complex platforms in the world? If so, join us in the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) as an Electrical Engineer.

We are seeking an experienced electrical engineer with a broad comprehensive electrical engineering background to operate as the Technical Lead for Electrical Distribution.

You can choose to be based at MOD Abbey Wood, Bristol or at the BAE facility in Barrow.

You will be part of a close-knit Electrical Engineering team of 5 engineers working in one of the two sites, with different specialisations in electrical systems, from electrical power storage to electromagnetic mitigation systems.

You'll be working on the SSN-A submarine programme delivering the next-generation nuclear-powered attack submarine as part of the trilateral security partnership between the United Kingdom, Australia, and the United States, with the purpose of replacing the UK's Astute-class and Australia's Collins-class submarines.

The project is now in the middle of the design phase and approaching the start of the manufacture stage. It is the one of the most complex and highest value engineering programmes being undertaken in the United Kingdom and you will gain exposure to a variety of duties that will aid you in developing your experience and career.

Hybrid and flexible working can be considered for this post but will require a minimum of 3 days per week regular workplace attendance due to security constraints.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Delivering technical advice across an array of situations, whilst also dealing directly with customers and clients to resolve technical electrical issues in a complex project environment. Formulating and undertaking joint design authority analysis of the electrical distribution system and mapping its integration path challenges. Collaborating with industrial partners in resolving any technical challenges that emerge through design and early verification trials. Authoring technical assurance papers in support of the platform progressive acceptance. This will include undertaking deep analysis of the verification and validation evidence sets, identifying and mitigating evidenced gaps to ensure effective through life management. Being the technical lead for a subset of the platform electrical systems with respect to effective risk management, whilst being a technical advisor to the electrical engineering system owner for the higher safety integrity level systems, building a detailed knowledge of the failure modes effects and criticality analysis. Balancing competing technical challenges with transversal and safety functional requirements.

Person specification



To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

Relevant Level 4 (or higher) qualification or equivalent or can demonstrate through detailed electrical engineering roles an equivalent level and understanding.
The following criteria is desirable:

Experience working within (or adjacent to) the Maritime industry. Experience working with high power electrical systems. Registered with an Engineering/ Scientific institution. Chartered or able to achieve Chartered status within 18 months of commencement of roles.

Qualifications



Hold a relevant HNC (i.e., Level 4 or higher) qualification in an Electrical Engineering or closely related subject or can demonstrate through detailed electrical engineering roles an equivalent level and understanding.
