Job Description

Are you a driven and innovative Registrar seeking a dynamic opportunity to reshape the landscape of emergency medical services? Look no further than our cutting-edge Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) program at St. Richard's Hospital. Nestled within our state-of-the-art Emergency Floor, our SDEC services boast a 55-bed footprint, complemented by an inviting ambulatory area.

But the excitement doesn't stop there!

We're thrilled to announce the development of a brand-new, NHSE-funded SDEC-specific unit, set for completion in April 2025. As a SDEC Registrar, you'll be at the forefront of this transformative initiative, working alongside a dedicated team of Nursing and Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) professionals, under the guidance of our esteemed Acute Physicians.

Together, you'll have the unique opportunity to contribute to the development of groundbreaking pathways and protocols, with a focus on streamlining referral processes from the community and Emergency Department. But your role won't be limited to the SDEC unit alone. You'll also be an integral part of the Acute Medicine Registrar team, gaining valuable experience in managing inpatient beds and providing care for the most acutely unwell patients. If you're a driven and ambitious Registrar who thrives on innovation and the chance to make a tangible difference in emergency care, we invite you to join us on this exciting journey.

Embrace the future of urgent care at St. Richard's Hospital - apply today!

We're seeking exceptional candidates who have honed their skills in this dynamic field. As the ideal candidate, you must possess extensive experience in Acute Medicine, with a clear preference for either Acute or General Medicine as your career path. Alternatively, you may come from an Allied Specialty with a keen interest in Acute Medicine. Your expertise should extend beyond just theoretical knowledge - you must have hands-on experience working at the Registrar level in Medicine or significant exposure at the SHO level in Acute Medicine.

Comfort in performing the relevant procedures independently is a must, and an Ultrasound Scan (USS) qualification or at least some USS experience would be an added advantage. Joining our dedicated team, you'll be an integral part of delivering exceptional care to our diverse patient population.

Your passion for professional growth will be nurtured, as you actively engage in developing your personal, clinical, and specialized skills. Demonstrating the ability to manage projects both independently and under supervision, you'll thrive in our dynamic environment.

Regular supervision meetings with an experienced training Consultant will empower you to achieve your personal objectives and shape your future career aspirations. If you're ready to embark on an exhilarating journey in Acute Medicine, we invite you to apply and become a part of our extraordinary team.

At UHSussex, diversity is our strength, and we want you to feel included to help us always put the Patient First. Your uniqueness and experiences will be part of our creative and innovative community where everyone is encouraged to succeed. We have a range of Staff Networks to help break down barriers, and can offer a buddy to help new members settle in. We're proud to be a Disability Confident Employer (Level 2) and a Veteran Aware Trust.

We treat our patients and staff with the same compassion and empathy we expect for ourselves. We're here for them when they need us, and we go above and beyond to meet their needs. This can be seen in our Wellbeing Programme for staff which is extensive and designed to support you when you need it, including where possible, flexible working to support work life balance - because we know that to look after others we must first look after ourselves.

As a university trust and a leader in healthcare research, we value learning, teaching and training so that we can be the best that we can be. From the moment you start with us and throughout your career we will help you to grow and develop. We hope that in choosing UHSussex you are choosing a long and happy career where you will be able to see the difference you make and feel valued for all that you do.
