Job Role




We are seeking to appoint a kind, organised and motivated Second Chef to join our team who will ensure that residents and visitors to the Home receive an efficient food service.

Key Responsibilities



Supervise and direct the work of other catering team, providing instruction and demonstration to unqualified team on simple food preparation activity. Support the Head Chef in daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, menu planning, and managing kitchen staff. Working with the head chef to create new menu items. Understand the principles of safe food handling to ensure all food preparation undertaken in the kitchen is to the highest standards of hygiene. Monitor and report the temperatures of refrigerators and freezers to ensure food is stored safely. Prepare and cook all daily meals for residents and team and provide catering for special occasions, private dining and events. Understand personal responsibilities in relation to the Health & Safety at Work Acts and fire safety and evacuation procedures and demonstrates a working knowledge of COSHH and HACCP assessments applicable in own work area. Develop and maintain positive relationships with all residents, family, visitors and colleagues. To cook meals and prepare snacks and beverages in line with the needs and preferences of the residents. Ensure that storage of food is in accordance with environmental health. To ensure high standards of cleanliness in the kitchen area. To ensure the adherence to standard operating procedures and the proper use of all machinery and equipment and compliance with all Health and Safety regulations and requirements from the Regulatory Authorities. Ensure that meal choices reflect the diversity of the residents in the Home. To ensure that COSHH regulations are complied with and to keep all required records. To ensure genuine choice for residents in all meals, ensure each has a properly balanced and nutritious diet and ensure that all meals meet the highest quality standards in content and presentation. To participate in food quality review meetings with residents / relatives on a quarterly basis. To liaise with care team concerning any changes in a resident's dietary habits, in particular where a resident refuses food.

Skills and Experience required



Experience in a professional kitchen, catering for large groups Understanding of specialist diets and menu planning Ideally working toward or holding a Level 3 Diploma in Hospitality Supervision and Leadership (or equivalent) Strong leadership and team motivation skills Confident engaging with elderly residents to understand their needs Budget and stock management experience
