Overview
PKAVS Carers Services supports unpaid carers of all ages to improve their wellbeing, confidence, and opportunities. As part of this work, our Education Attainment Service for Young Carers (EASyc) provides tailored educational support to young carers aged 5-18 who need extra help to engage and achieve in school. We take a person?centred approach, ensuring young carers are recognised as individuals first and supported to reach their full potential.
We are now seeking a dedicated Mathematics Tutor to help young carers build confidence, strengthen their learning, and achieve positive outcomes in school.
The Role
As a Mathematics Tutor within the EASyc project, you will deliver small?group sessions for young carers in S1-S3 at the PKAVS Carers Centre in North Muirton. You'll design personalised learning sessions aligned with the Scottish Curriculum, helping young carers overcome barriers, stay engaged, and progress academically. Your support will play a vital role in improving their educational experience and overall wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
Create tailored maths learning sessions based on each young person's needs and schoolwork.
Deliver tuition in line with the Scottish Curriculum.
Build trust and consistency to support positive learning relationships.
Keep accurate records of sessions and provide reports when required.
Maintain regular communication with the project manager regarding progress.
Work flexibly, recognising the challenges young carers face in maintaining regular attendance.
Identify barriers to learning and share insights with the project lead.
Follow all Health & Safety, insurance, and child protection requirements.
What You'll Bring
Degree?level education (minimum).
Strong understanding of the Scottish Curriculum, particularly S1-S3 maths.
Experience tutoring or teaching young people.
Ability to deliver person?centred, outcome?focused support.
Confidence using Microsoft Office, Outlook, and online tools.
Availability during or after school hours on weekdays.
Ability to travel to agreed locations (preferred).
Awareness of young carers' rights, needs, and challenges.
