Brief Description

You\'ll help keep our nation moving every single day. A critical part of the work we do is the daily upkeep of the rail network.

Your role is a tactical role to assist the Section Manager in the inspection, maintenance and renewal of assets to standards and within agreed resource levels, budget and unit cost measures.

You will supervise the delivery of work and undertake specific inspections as required. Assist in the management of staff as directed.

About the role (External)

You will be a specialist in Signalling & Telecoms. You\'ll be working with equipment including signals that control when trains can run, level crossings, and points systems. With your willingness to learn, you\'ll develop a huge range of technical skills across a range of manual, electrical and digital equipment.

You will:

\xc2\xb7 Supervise and check the quality of work delivered and confirm assets are compliant to standards.

\xc2\xb7 Carryout work safely and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures, method statements and other instructions.

\xc2\xb7 Adhere to company policies and procedures.

\xc2\xb7 Undertake specific inspections in accordance with standards as directed.

\xc2\xb7 Prioritize work arising.

\xc2\xb7 Prepare work and resource specifications and method statements including Safe System of Work Plans.

\xc2\xb7 Assist in the development of work plans that enables work to be delivered safely, efficiently and compliant to standards.

\xc2\xb7 Assist in the identification and proposal of asset renewals.

\xc2\xb7 Assist in the allocation of resources.

\xc2\xb7 Delivery work in accordance with the relevant maintenance plans.

\xc2\xb7 Provide appropriate information to update systems, databases and records.

\xc2\xb7 Undertake a programme of staff surveillance, work quality, compliance and asset condition checks as directed.

\xc2\xb7 Assist in the management, control and discipline of staff as directed.

\xc2\xb7 Assist in the monitoring and review of staff competence and welfare.

\xc2\xb7 Contribute to your own development and that of others.

Your skills matter

Our Section Supervisors play a key role in our maintenance teams. You will need to meet the following:

\xc2\xb7 Experience of directing and supervising worksites and the safe and efficient delivery of work.

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of resource and work organisation/planning processes and systems.

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge and experience of rail testing & lubrication inspection, maintenance, renewal and asset condition assessment techniques.

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of relevant standards, procedures and instructions.

\xc2\xb7 Awareness of cost and waste control techniques.

\xc2\xb7 Able to demonstrate, promote and embed safe working behaviours within the team.

\xc2\xb7 Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

\xc2\xb7 Able to coach, influence and develop others.

\xc2\xb7 Hold and retain competencies relevant to this post and required by business need.

\xc2\xb7 Ideally hold (or be working towards) an NVQ level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or have attained the appropriate level of knowledge gained through equivalent relevant experience.

\xc2\xb7 Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need.
