Job summary

To deliver and support the provision of a security service in keeping with the best principles associated with the concept of a 'safe and secure' environment and adhering to the principles of Criminal, Health & Safety Legislation, Civil Legislation and Customer Care. Responsible for ensuring a speedy response to all calls for security assistance however received and take action to resolve incidents


Main duties, tasks & skills required

Responds sensitively, promptly and in a courteous and professional manner, to enquiries via telephone calls and face to face communication which may be complex and involve problems in communication/understanding.


To greet and assist key contacts in a responsive, friendly and helpful manner, thus promoting and maintaining a good communication network.


Develop relationships with patients, relatives and colleagues which allow effective


communication.


Maintain open communication with patients, relatives, Trust employees and all other key contacts.


Recognising the patient as an individual, and with the support of the clinical teams help them to meet their social, emotional, health and intellectual needs.


Ability to work as part of a team liaising with all members of the multi-disciplinary team with the acute Trust.


Required to communicate digitally, in writing, verbally, face to face and over the telephone/radio in a professional and appropriate manner.


Liaise with the police officers as required, providing forensic statements, documenting police log/crime reference numbers.


Have the ability to communicate nonclinical complex and sensitive information which may relate to staff, patients and relatives within and outside the organization.

To assist clinical teams support and manage patients with complex mental health and learning needs, including young people, some of whom may be held under the Mental Capacity Act and/or other relevant legislation.


To lead in the restraint of patients, visitors, members of the public using a proportional and reasonable response with the minimum of force for the shortest amount of time possible, following the successful completion of the Prevention Management of Violence and Aggression Training Program.


Challenge any person on site as to their business on site out of hours, assist or move on the person as appropriate, contacting police if required.


To request any person who doesn't have due course to be on the hospital site, to leave the premises; if they refuse the request when asked to do so, to assist person to leave and/or contact the police for further support if required.


You may be exposed to blood, body fluid and unpleasant odours.


You may be requested to advise and assist with security details for high profile visitors and patients to the Trust.


To be part of the fire response team including fire evacuation, taking action in line with the Trust fire and emergency procedures, to minimise risk to life and assets.


Undertake patrols inside and outside the building, paying particular attention to high fire risk areas such as storage or where hot work is taking place, ie. welding or cutting and electrical work.


Monitor safety controls checking periodically that fire extinguishers are in place and operational, fire exits are not blocked or locked, and the fire alarm system is operational.


Provide evacuation support to clinical teams and record all information about fire incidents, through the Trust's incident reporting system Radar.


To be a part of the helicopter response team taking action in line with the Trust procedures


Undertake external water testing three times a week for the prevention of legionella, reporting information on to digital systems.


To support members of staff at risk (e.g. victims of stalking, lone workers) providing an escort when walking from their vehicles to place of work, offering security advice whilst in work, CCTV monitoring as required etc within the acute Musgrove site.
