About the role
Reporting to the Deputy Facilities Manager, you will be part of the security team to ensure that we provide an effective 24/7 professional security service for our staff, tenants, contractors, and visitors from around the UK and the world.
The role will involve front-of-house duties, processing visitors and contractors, and contacting site hosts.
You will also carry out regular patrolling of the site and external buildings on foot and in the site security vehicle.
Role Responsibilities
The primary duties will include:
Promote a security culture across the site to staff, tenants, visitors and contractors.
Checking of site passes and identity cards.
Monitoring activity outside and inside premises through observation and closed-circuit television.
Recording and monitoring of any suspicious activity and security incidents, recording information on computer systems, sending to appropriate internal stakeholders, and taking any necessary action.
Ability to handle sensitive situations in a confidential manner.
Safeguarding classified/confidential information and materials, adhering to GDPR protocols.
Conducting searches of vehicles or personnel if required.
Escorting of visitors and VIPs as required.
Providing directions and other relevant campus information to visitors and delivery drivers.
Fulfilling security and health and safety roles whilst patrolling; reporting safety, health and environment issues on computer systems.
Monitor out-of-hours lone working activity.
Liaising and contacting emergency services and key staff in emergency situations, carrying out initial actions at the scene of any incident if required, including first aid.
Coordinating emergencies in accordance with site emergency plan (both during work hours and out of hours).
Out-of-hours safety monitoring of critical scientific and engineering equipment as requested.
Responding to daytime and out-of-hours alarm activations.
Carrying out building opening and closing operations.
Ensure shift handover information is communicated to oncoming shifts appropriately.
Control vehicle and pedestrian access and egress to and from site, coordinating vehicle movements and car parking during events.
Conducting general reception duties, including answering and transferring telephone calls via switchboard.
Issuing of door cards, keys and passes; resetting of locks; management of signing in and out documentation.
Ensuring contractors complete the site safety induction test prior to going on site.
Carry out site PA (Tannoy) announcements as required.
Daily radio checks, recording and updating of the site emergency contacts board.
Assist with site post and logistics duties as required, checking for suspicious packages.
Person Specification
Essential
GCSE level education.
Full UK driving licence.
Previous experience in similar security role.
Previous experience with working 12-hour shift patterns.
Evidence of working in a team environment.
Effective communication skills.
Effective crisis management skills and ability to stay calm under pressure.
Flexible attitude and ability to work additional shifts as required at short notice.
Previous experience with Microsoft Word and Outlook systems.
Desirable
Good level of fitness.
First aid trained.
NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Security or public services.
