About the Scottish Parliament
The Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body is responsible for providing the Parliament with the property, staff and services required for the Parliament's purposes. We place a high value on excellence, and we are continually looking to improve how we can deliver the Parliament's core purpose of representing the people of Scotland by debating issues of national importance, passing legislation and holding the Scottish Government to account. We are a diverse workforce, and our embedded values shape the way we work and treat each other. We have a culture of respect and inclusion, and everyone has the ability to make a difference.
About the role
This is an excellent opportunity to join the Security Office as a Trainer. The Security Office aims to ensure a safe and secure environment for those who work in and visit the Parliament. We do this through a 24/7 onsite presence in the Parliament building and through a range of personnel and physical security measures which are designed to minimise disruption to parliamentary business and public engagement activities. We also work with Members and their staff, providing advice on keeping safe and secure when away from the main parliamentary campus.
As a Security Trainer, you'll be responsible for identifying training and development needs for the security operational staff through analysis and regular consultation with staff members. Reporting directly to the Security Resources and Training Manager, you'll manage all central training materials and deliver the training identified in the development programme, to security staff. This training is essential for maintaining skills, confidence and professional standards in the Security Office. You'll also be responsible for delivering induction training to new security staff when required.

As Security Trainer you'll be responsible for developing a comprehensive training programme. This work will involve designing and creating detailed lesson plans that cover a broad spectrum of security topics.
The ability to deliver engaging training sessions is equally important. This includes conducting both in-person and virtual training using a variety of teaching methods to accommodate a range of learning styles and thereby ensuring knowledge is effectively transferred across the team.
Evaluating the effectiveness of training is another vital component of the role. This is achieved through the collection of feedback and the analysis of performance metrics. Insights gained from evaluation is used to continuously improve training materials and delivery.
To fulfil these responsibilities effectively, you must have proven experience in training or a related field, and an interest in security would be beneficial. Strong communication and presentation skills are essential, as is the ability to develop and adapt training materials for various audiences. Proficiency with a range of training tools and technologies, coupled with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, will contribute significantly to success in this role.
You'll be one of two Trainers responsible for ensuring the core services of training are delivered.
You'll encourage a culture where your team members are empowered to deliver high quality work which will enhance the reputation of the Parliament. You'll also champion collaborative working with colleagues across the parliamentary service, promoting positive and open communication, as well as our commitment to diversity and inclusion.
We particularly welcome applications from candidates from a Minority Ethnic background and Disabled candidates. All appointments will be made on merit. We have a values-based culture of respect and inclusion embedded in our organisation, and everyone has the ability to make a difference.
including: 41.5 leave days (including public holidays), flexible working, paid professional subscriptions, family-friendly policies, Season Ticket advance loans, an onsite gym, Health and Wellbeing Schemes including discounted gym membership, a confidential counselling and information service, and the Cycle to Work Scheme.

We are a values-based organisation. Our values are a central part of our working culture and our people management processes. We use these to recruit, manage and develop our staff.
